Alaska Cruise September 2017

G'day all!
I'm looking at taking a cruise (7 nights during 1/9 through 7/9) to Alaska, and have identified the following lines:
1) Princess 2) Holland America and 3) Celebrity

Departure ports preferably Anchorage, Vancouver and Seattle in that order of preference…

Any bargains to be had? Also anyone recommendations of Australian-based travel agents?

cheers

Can't recommend any Australian companies, but we used cruisecompete.com to find the cheapest ticket and had no issues at all. The cheapest quote came from Crown Cruise Vacations (based in New Jersey USA - excellent service.

    • Thanks mate, will check it out, and perhaps get FC to price beat? :-) so that I deal with someone local?

      • Flight Centre will only price beat an Australian company

If you wanted to extend your trip to include a little of the Canadian Rockies, I can recommend TripADeal for an all inclusive holiday. Prices very reasonable and we did have a great experience in September 2015. The ship was a Royal Caribbean.

    • Thanks mate, I've road-tripped the Rockies few years ago, this time around, I only wanna cruise Alaska…cheers

  • Does anyone know whether Cashrewards give cashbacks for booking cruises on Expedia etc etc? cheers

  • Hello again and thanks to those who've responded!
So I've been searching online and found www.cruisedirect.com (US - based) has a fare that beats what I can get locally. So, what I'd like to know is whether any fellow OzBargainers have booked through cruisedirect.com before? If so, what is your experience? Any comments welcome…. good, bad or ugly? cheers… Oldrocker

I just tried to price match an Alaska cruise with two Australian companies and an American one - Vacations to go. I spoke to two different Flight Centes and they were both many thousands more and that was the best they could do. Another one was close to Vacations To Go, but could not match the $1000 OBC, which I planned to use on excursions.

Have a look at Vacations to go. They seem to be particularly good inside 90 days departure, and have a 1800 free number from home phones, or Skype etc.

    • Thanks for that, surprisingly vacations to go came in about same as my local FC, so I've gone with FC since they also threw in a small onboard credit :-)

PS, I found a lot more availability from YVR going north, than departing from ANC and going south.

  • Okay guys & gals, I'm arriving in Anchorage, Alaska very early and my cruise departs the next day around 8pm.
Instead of just spending the time in Anchorage, I'm wondering if there's any tour I can join to see nature, wildlife etc overnighting in the wilderness and returning to board the cruise.
Hoping someone may have done this (or similar) before and don't mind sharing! Cheers

  • Where exactly does your cruise depart from? You may find that you are spending the day getting to Seward to board, or are they including that transfer for you? There are Kansai Fjord cruises out of Seward you could investigate.

    • Departs from Whitier. The ideal tour would be they drop me off at Whitier after the tour, if there's such an arrangement!!!

I'd check with TripAdvisor, but something like this could work: https://www.salmonberrytours.com/tours/anchorage-to-whittier…

@anna10 Thanks for the links, that transfer + sightseeing looks good. Also, I've found some tours ex-Vancouver Island which may be possible to do as cruise ends in Vancouver. Schedule not so tight at this end. Thanks again!
