Um Where Is My NBN?

So I have been patiently waiting for NBN to become available. And when checking the ISP websites they have listed that the information provided by NBNCo was that it would be available on 17th February 2017 - Obviously I still cannot get it. So just wondering what are the usual timeframes from build commenced to being active?

I am also going to be on FTTN currently getting like 1.2mb/s on a good day with ADSL - so just wondering with FTTN is it really worth going for a 100mb/s or 50mb/s plan because I really doubt these speeds will be achievable with FTTN. Any info would be appreciated!

  • Have you received marketing materials from telco/NBN providers? Mine was active two weeks after receiving ads from TPG in my mailbox. It took another two weeks on top of that for Telstra to send their 'free' NBN router and info package.

    • Got something from aussie broadband the other day so hopefully that is a sign of good things to come

      • Mine is on FTTN too, 100/40 plan with Internode. I suggest do your research first, a lot of provider can easily provide you with Tier 1 even on FTTN, but most suffered from throttling during peak times, especially those with 'Unlimited' plan.
My speedtest result varied between 81/35 down to 24/5, but I have heard worse with different providers.

At first I was skeptical too, but after switching over to NBN from my ADSL2+ that tops out at 6Mbps and on bad days goes to 3Mbps, I'm now able to get up to 96Mbps down and 38Mbps up. I've heard that you can't go down tiers with NBN, you can only go up, so test it out at teir 1 and work your way up to find your sweet spot.

Are they saying Build Commenced or Ready For Service?
Build Commenced means you have around 6-9 months wait.
Ready For Service, you should be able to connect already.

No-one can tell you what speed you'll get, not even NBN can tell you until you cut over.
Once connected, your VDSL modem will tell you the maximum speed you can achieve even if your plan speed is lower than the maximum.
Start at 25/5 speed and see what you can actually achieve, then call your ISP to Upgrade as you see fit.

  • 1 month from showing active to getting connected

If u are on Telstra Cable (HFC) on speedboost… dont transfer to NBN service till Telstra force you too… their NBN service is very very poor.
