Reliability is not really an issue with laser printers. I'd be looking at the cost of replacement toners.

Some companies offer cheap printers, and expensive toners. Other companies offer the opposite.

  • I've been using a Brother HL 2140 which I picked up for under 60 (maybe it was less, there was redemption) and it has been going strong. Had no issues with drivers, hardware has been quite good and the replacement toners are well priced. Plus you can cover up the toner sensor to trick the thing into giving more bang for buck :D

    • Hi Kranbone, I have the same printer. What do u mean by "Plus you can cover up the toner sensor to trick the thing into giving more bang for buck" ?? might do the same to extend the life of my toner!

i strongly agree with Kranbone, HL 2140 is a VERY reliable printer.

Samsung ml-1640 or 1660 is always cheap between 60-80 usually, its a good printer and generally the cartridges are the same price as a new one or slightly cheaper >$10.00

here's some links although these prices are close to 80.00
