Anyone Tried Woolworths/Coles Chilled Ready Meals?

Hi everyone. Going to have a busy time next month starting a new job and want to give prepared meals a go.

Before giving Youfoodz, LitenEasy etc a go, was wondering if anyone has tried Woolies/Coles chilled meals and can share their experience? They seem a bit cheaper than those delivered services. Thanks

The Coles Frozen Meals at $3.50 are good value and I recommend the Chicken Chipotle.

  • I quite like the coles butter chicken. I get the frozen veggies that come in mixed prepacked microwave steam bags, and for a quick and easy to prepare meal, that doesnt taste like airplane food like many of the frozen meals, you cant go wrong. 2:30 in the microwave for the butter chicken and rice, 2:30 for the veggies, mix it all into a bowl, and you got a somewhat balanced healthy meal in 5 mins with minimal effort :) Other good ones are the lamb korma, and the woolies ones arent bad either, they have butter chicken too (though i prefer coles) as well as black bean chicken stir fry, red/green chicken curry, satay chicken… all with rice, all pretty nice. The woolies go on special often, the coles dont. For a bit more nutrients get the ones that dont include rice and then buy the microwave wholegrain or quinoa rice sachets… can be a little dryer though, and turns it into a meal for 2 instead.

    Hope that helps :)

    • The fresh butter chicken at Coles is worth spending the extra dollar or two on.

I eat the Frozen meals (Coles or whatevers on special) and they are great

  • You want to check the nutrient breakdowns on these. Often these type of meals are laden with sugar, salt and fat so they taste OK. You might also want to look into making up big lots of stews, pasta sources, etc on weekends, freeze portions sizes and then use them up during the week.

  • Thanks for your replies. I was hoping the non-frozen stuff can provide more nutritional value and taste than the frozen stuff.

  • Choice Magazine did a review of the different meals, but they were comparing low-calorie options. I've been trying Lite n Easy for the past month because I started a new job and wanted to save the time (and the thinking!). I'm not too keen on the breakfasts, but the lunches are great and the dinners are pretty good. There's so many dinners to choose from that you will find some favourites.

Youfoodz is next on my list to try but the extra $20 delivery fee to Perth makes it a much more expensive option.

    • I am in Brisbane so the delivery is free.

Apparently Youfoodz meals are for sale in many convenient stores and some IGAs here so I might give it a go that way first.

  • Coles butter chicken and tiki masala are quite good, just steam it in a covered bowl for 20 mins for an easy meal.
