How to Sell AmEx Platinum Edge Flight?

Hi all,

I have a few questions to ask regarding selling of AmEx flights. I know a lot of people do it on the Classifieds section of this site and I do look at the them. I have a flight which I am wanting to sell and my dad has one which he would like to sell as well. However, as I have never used it before I was wondering don't AmEx get suss and not allow this? Don't they ask questions when you call to book the flight in someone else's name? What do other people say? Also if I could sell them could I just give the buyer bank details and they transfer it? Or is PayPal preferred?

Hoping to be able to sell them as I won't use it and my dad won't either. Just a bit nervous and worried about the process. My apologies if this is in the wrong section.

    I gave my last flight to my mum, no questions were asked by Amex during the booking process (my mum did not adopt/took on my dad's surname so no way they could've guessed that she was my mum)

    just beware that any changes to the booking will cost you more then the annual fees (unfortunately my mum had a change of plan/mind)

    You have about 15 days left, after this month you can no longer redeem flights.

    I've successfully sold it before. No questions asked from Amex.

    I think they book whoever you ask them to. My parents did for me (family) and my gf, so different last name. They didn't want their flight so we went to Sydney.

    My only question is how has everyone sold their flight? I would rather sell mine for say $300 or something, much cheaper than any other Perth t- xxxx return flight, but it saves me money, as I could take the holiday but I don't need to (I can't find anyone to goto the mountains in July/aug for snow in order to book before the 31 March deadline). So I'd rather save the money.

    I wouldn't want to book a flight and then ask for payment - as it can't be changed then. So how do you all do it, apart from meeting in person and literally taking cash and booking on the spot, surely there's an easier way. Do most people trust you enough to bank transfer you, then you email them/book the itineraries over phone and it's all done - no need to meet up?

    I thought of paypal but what scares me is can't any scammer just dispute a payment, get the money back, and onus is on you to prove otherwise?? How did others sell?

      Like how you sell anything I guess, there is some degree of trust involved. Obviously meeting in person would be the safest. You can ask for bank transfer, but the risk lies with the buyer then.

        Is the paypal friends and family option that I see some selling on classified safe? I am just worried with paypal and buyers dispute what chances are/how easy it is for scammers to get money back then?

        I remember reading some articles - don't know if scaremongering - about how easy it was for people to pay via paypal, receive sold goods and then dispute transactiona nd make off? Urban myth , or real risk?

    Does anyone know if you have to book return flights from your city? i.e being Perth based, can I book Sydney - Melbourne return for someone? Or do they only allow you to book from your home city to somewhere, and back?

      You can book any eligible flights.

        I just rang up and supposedly not, you have to fly from your home city return?

        Anyone else care to comment?

        Ok , for others sake - rang up and asked. SO I can't book anywhere outside of my home town for flights. Some cards can, some can't.

        So you'd have to know and check - I have a platinum edge card. THey didn't specify who or what cards could do it. My parents had an edge card through another institution once and their flights couldn't goto Melbourne and had terrible availability of seats. I've always had great seats availability when booking on my card on the same days, so all cards are very different.

          I have the platinum edge too, So I am hoping whoever buys the ticket can fly elsewhere even if not out of Brisbane.
