How to Prevent Wood Floor Scratches from Office Chair?

Every room I've ever had has always ended up with a scratched floor near the computer table where my office chair is, I've got one of those thick plastic floor covers that you can get from Ikea which is meant to protect the floor but my floor is more white than brown now - what do I need to get to prevent this from happening???

Yeah. I pushed that. I'm just adding my 2 cents. FWIW I pushed the button next to your comments to a plus. Now reads -1. Yay for button pushing.

Now off to do some work and push people's buttons.

Simplistic and incorrect: read the first two replies above, which give good advice.

Lubricate the wheels may help. Selleys EzyGlide. Ouch, it's pricey.

you can buy big heavy duty plastic chair mats which sit on the floor from office works etc

i think you can also get them for your desk top to protect against tear and wear from keyboards, mice etc

Maybe, just maybe, you could lift the chair when you move it…..sorta how ya mum taught us to do in the early ages.

Now I have also, to protect flooring and to aid in easy sliding all my heavy furniture and the chairs (lazy bone bratts), I nailed a small square of carpet to every item in all corners, or on all legs. Very small flat head as such a furniture tack or similar nail.
Much cheaper than buying the exact same thing……but you need to do a few minutes of effort. Still all on and functioning after many years.
