Difference in Smell of Bio Oil?

Hi i've got stretch marks on my belly and i've starated to use bio oil to help reduce the appearance of these, normally i buy my bio oil from chemist warehouse for about $30/200ml but ive decided to buy from en ebay seller for a $20/200ml. My only concern is that the bottles that i've bought off of ebay smell different to the ones i buy from chemist warehouse. What could be the reason for this? My primary concern is that the ebay seller may have tampered with the mixture ie diluted it maybe? idk

  • Does it work the same? Is the package sealed? Name and shame. Meanwhile …

    • i wouldn't know if the product worked the same because bio oil requires at least 2 months for you to be any result (or so they say!) yes package looked good, apart from the smell i would've been none the wiser!

  • It would be impossible to know whether it works the same or not, since bio oil is a long term thing rather than short term.

Have you checked the expiry date? What does it smell like? Does it smell off? It could be old stock or stock that has been sitting in the sun.

    • that is very true. i could not find an expiry date on the box or the bottle. apart from the smell, i found nothing wrong with the product.

      • Did the smell resemble nail polish remover? That can delete expiry dates.

        • the one i bought from chemist warehouse smelt stronger but it's a very nice smell. The one from ebay is a much different smell, still strong but i guess dull?

  • ebay. anything is possible.

There are known fake Bio-oil around. From memory, the company even made a statement about them.

Honestly, i didn't find it worked for me. You can try Palmers Cocoa Butter, but i find it's heavily scented, and you can wait for it to go on special at Priceline.

Edit: i think it's more about frequently moisturising the area than anything. Bio Oil is just marketed well TBH

  • messaged the seller about my concerns for the difference in smell, i can't really comment on the thickness and colour compared to the stuff bought from chemist warehouse and i dont really remember. This is the response that i received from them
"Hi, This is Union Swiss product. Made in South Africa. Different countries use different blends and this can be the reason of different smell." thoughts?

  • I don't know if you've purchased the Bio-oil brand specifically but I think this site helps with fakes. You put in the brand and the batch code and it gives you the use-by date. Can help you determine how old your product is too.

  • The original Bio Oil that you got, did it have any tamper proof seal? From memory I believe they don't so you have no way of knowing if yours has been tampered with or not (ie foil on top of the bottle).

    • no it did not, yes you are right. can't really tell
