Suzuki Swift Service Cost Too High!?

I am completely clueless when it comes to cars and would like some advice from the more knowledgeable members here. I own a 2007 model Suzuki Swift. I just called up a local Suzuki service centre and was quoted $1900+ for a 105,000 km service which includes scheduled replacement of the fuel filter pump kit (apparently $1200 for that alone - calling BS there as a quick google found them to be quite cheap unless I'm looking at the wrong thing).

The price definitely made me hesitant to go forth with this, I feel there's no way I should be paying this much! So can anyone give advice on how essential this part is to be replaced? If I must get it replaced, can I go elsewhere that's not Suzuki branded and be fine?

Any recommendations in the Brisbane area for a good mechanic?

Thanks in advance!!

Why not call 3 places… why rant after 1 phone call / 1 quote?

    • Yes, I realise I can call around and ask for more quotes. I was planning to do so but would like to have some more background information such as how essential this part is for replacement and whether it must be the same brand before I call.

Just 1 or 2 more calls would give you a better idea than this forum 99% of the time. And you would get prices quicker than it took to write the post

Hi Spackbace - I'm looking for a Repco within the outerconfines of Maroochydore. Can you please Google this for me and get back to me? Thanks

          • Pretty much what OP is doing here

          @ThithLord:

Not really its more like, "I just found out there is a Repco in Gordonvale, but that is so far, do you think its justified that they have one so far? There is no way I should be traveling so far, can anyone advise me on how essential it is for me to find a Repco? If I must get to a Repco can I go somewhere that is not Gordonvale and be fine?"

if the part is cheap, check out some youtube instructional videos on how to replace it yourself …

going from this video, I'd suggest a big chunk of the cost is because you have to remove the fuel tank to access the pump https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW1u6sxvWy0

Prob not a good idea as the OP states he is clueless on cars. Playing with petrol and HI pressure pumps and associated wiring & piping is maybe out of his league me thinks. Good for the handy car tinkering person yes, but not on this one.

  • but if it's not under warranty, no need to use authorised repairers

  • Are you sure its not the water pump and timing belt? Usually that is the major cost in major services around 90/105k kms. While the part can be pricey, also the labour for this is also quite pricey as it takes a lot of effort to do.

But as backspace has said, call around and ask for a few quotes

I believe this car has a timing chain.

  • A quick google shows it to be in a PITA area next to the fuel tank.. But it beats my car, where the filter is in the fuel tank…

The only time I'd go to a dealer mechanic is if it's free (i.e first 3 months or whatever of ownership) or if i've been told by a local mechanic the repair needs a specialised tool that only the dealership has available.

Other than that local mechanic all the way! I understand that finding a good one may be difficult and I'm not from QLD so can't help you there. Definitely ask friends and family for recommendations or if they know a gearhead who could recommend a shop for you.

  • There is something very wrong wrong with that quote……… The Fuel Filter is on the 105k I believe, but not the pump, as they are separate items but attached in the tank. The external filter will be on that quote, but I doubt a pump( never seen a pump on scheduled service list to this day).

I have no Service list available atm, but OP, make a few more calls, and confirm what is required, what is included, and what is a blooper. Sorry I can nor be of more exacting info or advise on this one.

Also, join the local or online Suzuki Owners Forums, for some great advise.

If you are near Redcliffe then I'd recommend my mechanic - Toys mechanic & muffler On Oxley avenue. It's a family owned and run business. I've been going to them for 7 years. Great value, great workmanship, honest

    $1900+ for a 105,000 km

    LOL WHAT THE HELL

  • Get ready for a world of pain mate, a 2007 swift car will sooner or later have problems with the wheel bearings and fuel sensor. Very common issues with this car at that mileage.

    • Wheel bearings and fuel sensor is not a bad thing, nothing major really in the car world

  • $1900 is almost half the value of the car!

  • Almost bought demo gl auto demo for 14500 DA untill we did sone search regarding service cost, way too much considering it's a small car.end up buying 3yo low k i30,$219/year fixed price, and the boot is a lot bigger.

    • Resale on the Swift + 5yrs Warranty > 3yo i30

      • Feature wise,i30>swift
        btw,whoever is reading,
Im not really comparing as they belong to different category,an it's old vs new
Just for my situation, the 2 are both same price range.I picked a 2nd hand one with lower service cost, better features

    • Where'd you get $219 from?

      http://www.hyundai.com.au/owning/get-a-service-quote

      Based on a 2013/2014 i30, 1.8L/2.0L automatic:
      45,000km - $340
      60,000km - $410
      75,000km - $265

      • Just did it today, was replying this post while waiting for the service.
        Invoice

I bought my car second hand,so lower resale value works good on my side.
I do think resale value of current hyundai/kia are getting better thou, compare to a few years ago.
atm,kia has 7 year unlimited warranty, hyundai has 5 year unlimited warranty,3 year free upgrade for map,10 year roadside assistant, life time fixed price service, value for money wise, nothing really beat it right now.
