Travel wall adapter for Thailand?

Will be going to Thailand for two weeks in couple months time. Can anyone recommend a cheap reliable wall adapter so I can charge my Aus mobile over there. I could borrow from the hotel but sometimes they don't have it or run out of available ones. And I don't want to spend my vacation time hunting for cheap ones over there.

I don't need those expensive universal adapters that can be used in Europe and US as I don't foresee going to these countries anytime in the future. Thanks.

Edit: I heard it can be bought at 7-11 over there. Anyone knows if it's cheap?

For Thailand I've used EU adapters from $2 shops (though I don't know how much they go for these days). Never had an issue bur I'm no electrician though.

Just go on eBay and order one of those AU to US or EU (or both, to be sure) adaptors from HK for about a buck which will arrive in about 3-4 weeks. Thailand is at 220V, close enough to our 230V. They're just wiring inside, no electronics.

    • Thanks. Didn't know they are that cheap on eBay. So US or EU has the same kind of wall sockets. Any particular seller to recommend that is reliable?

They are all more or less the same, selling mass produced factory stuff with a few cents difference, many are the same seller with multiple eBay shops.

        • Thanks.

They sell chargers by the truckload at the markets in Thailand, or buy a cheap universal one on eBay

    • Thanks how about the 7-11s? I think they are everywhere over there.

Yeah in tourist areas it's hard to avoid people who are selling this sort of thing. Your Australian phone charger is actually a transformer, so you don't have to worry about the volts, it will be rated 120-240v and will only put out the correct volts for your phone. A lot of hotels have universal outlets or USB on the wall anyway.

        • Thanks. Good to know about the voltage

If your charger is the 2 prong one then it works fine in this socket which are commonly found in hotels.

Absolutely correct. I am a frequent traveller to Thailand, cities and towns, and they always have a 3 hole socket or a 2 hole socket, and a 2 pronged plug will fit into both. The only problem that I have ever come across is that some 'budget cost' places have 2 hole socket power points and you might have a 3 pronged plug on some electrical things. Happened with my travel jug, and I just snapped off the 'earth' prong, as I wasn't going to get an earth from a 2 hole socket anyway. Power supply is 220 v I think, but not a problem with iphone or Surface Pro tablet. In the tourist areas it is easy to find a conveter plug too, from street sellers, and from supermarkets (Villa Mart, Big C,) Not sure about 7/11.

      • Cheers for info

        • What towns are you going to?

        • @Peck: we are planning on bangkok and hua hin

        • @Jared17: Hua Hin is a great little spot, although a little quiet. If transferring by minivan, strap yourself in, as the drivers have a habit of speeding and falling asleep. Note that the Minivans have relocated their Bangkok terminal (moved from Victory Monument)

        • @Peck: thanks for that update

    • Unfortunately my huawei mobile is the one with 3 prongs. And the two bottom ones are slanted at an angle.

      • Standard Aussie plug then?

        • Yep

        • @Jared17: Just the way you talk about slanted pins like they were new to you.

As said, heaps of hotels already have the universal outlets, if not they're like 20c over there anyway

    • Wow that is crazy cheap. Guess I will just wait until I'm there to buy one
