OzBargain Recommended Printer

Hello eveyone. I know Ozbargain has a favourite laptop, favourite batteries etc, but do we have a favourite printer?

I am in need a of a cheap, no frills printer. Doesn't need to scan or anything fancy, just print lecture notes and word docs in black and white. I understand that ink can be the killer in printers so the other requirement is that ink is not too expensive and easy to replace.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • I've used this one for 4 years of uni.

Can find it at around $50 normally.

Cartridge isn't cheap but lasts for around 800 full text pages IIRC, so you can wait for sales/ebay codes.

The model below is cheaper, but I find the price difference is fine for wireless.

No problems since I bought it.

  • Current favorite for printing heaps in the office:

    Printer $149

    Toner - Pack of 3 for $35.90

Had the previous model to this one for 5 years till it died. Great printer. Changed over tothe Brother as the refills were cheaper and I didn't want a white one. This one is $99

favourite printer would be the one at work

  • Another vote for a Brother mono laser. I picked one up from HN for $19 at least 5 years ago now and it is still going strong. Toner is about $25 on eBay.

  • Is there such thing as a bad printer?
I bought a relatively cheap HP printer, it does the job and hasn't required maintenance or repairs since I bought it 6 years ago.

  • A vote for the Brother HL-1110.

$14.45 delivered for a generic cartridge on eBay.

  • Thanks for all the input guys. Looks like the consensus is the Brother mono laser. Cheapest I can find atm is $53 via Dick Smith ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brother-HL-1110-Mono-Compact-Lase… or the wireless model for $65.60 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brother-HL-1210W-Mono-Laser-Print…

Any opinions on the difference between the 1110 and 1210? Is it worth the extra?

    • Actually I think I've decided the wireless is better, has more memory and has the convenience of not messing around with cables etc.

  • Any printer you can decent enough quality 3rd party consumables from an AU seller on ebay.

  • reccomend getting a printer with auto-duplex, save so much paper with it
