Travel to USA, Qantas, APIS, ESTA , booking confirmation help!

Hi all.
Booked tickets to US with Qantas with a gift voucher a few days ago. Should have a balance of $104 on the gift voucher.
Applied for ESTA over a few days, approved today for all travellers. Updated APIS details with QANTAS.

I haven't received a booking confirmation or a reissued gift voucher for the balance. Should I be worried? I don't know where I can provide Qantas with the ESTA information.

Thanks.

Ps. Husband thinks we should leave all phones and tablets at home if we don't want our data to be copied by immigration should they become a bit overzealous at the border… thoughts anyone?

  • They don't need esta info, it is electronic they have it automatically, the computer systems are linked, you don't need to show it. I would print them and take them anyway.
I'd ring qantas and ask where the confirmations are, check junk email.
Husband is being a bit dramatic.

  • As Stewardo says, just call Qantas tomorrow and check with them.

Re: phones/tablets, it's certainly possible for US Customs to search/copy your data, but it doesn't seem like it occurs often. I travel to the States 3 times a year for work and haven't encountered this (touch wood!). According to Business Insider, in 2015 less than 5000 phones/devices were searched out of 383 million arrivals - https://www.businessinsider.com.au/can-us-border-agents-sear…. Having said that, things may be different post-Trump!

  • Hi,

About the Apis, do you have to update it online or just provide your detail at checkin? I'm travelling with United Airlines in August but they have not asked me for APIS detail.

    • At check in

  • Husband thinks we should leave all phones and tablets at home if we don't want our data to be copied by immigration

take along extra tin foil for his hat.

if you're that worried then buy an elcheapo colesworth unlocked phone

  • Husband is right. Trump will try everything to "make America great again". I agree it is a small risk but nevertheless.
Get a cheap phone there if you really need one.

  • Called Qantas. They had to update some details (?) and now will take 24-48 hours to issue the tickets, then the new gift voucher for the balance.

I'm not happy about the phone or iPad situation. :( Especially when travelling, without having the iPad it is a bit inconvenient.

  • Yeah, I wouldn't want immigration copying my data. Can you uninstall your apps such as Facebook, Messenger before immigration, then reinstall from cloud after you're through???
