  • In my experience earbuds under $10 sound tinny. The problem I've found with the cheap sets is that one of the earbuds will stop working after 1-11 months.
I bought a pair of cygnett earbuds for my Grandma who was previously going through the Reject Shop ($2) or supermarket ($8) earbuds every 2-4 months. They cost $18 from DSE, came with a 5 year warranty, sound better than any she had ever had, and are still working perfectly to this day (5 years later).
In short, I wouldn't recommend anything under $15.

    • Currently selling at HN clearance bins for $12, they are pretty good

  • Brilliant. Just the advice I was looking for. I will check those out. Cheers, Lacerta.

    • +1

WAIT!!! if your looking for stuff on focalprice. THERE is hope!!! SOUNDMAGIC PL-30
      Look for reviews on them.
FOR 20 or so dollars, they are considered the BEST OF THE BEST at the price. and its def genuine on focal price!

      • Focal Price are well known fakers, so i wouldnt be trusting anything from them

There's a lot of links out there i just didnt want to paste all of them, better deals locally although wouldnt mind trying the soundmagic's one day

        • i got a friend to call soundmagic in china. They confirmed that focal price does buy off them, however i also know that all the other stuff is fake. I can only confirm the soundmagic products are genuine. i didnt mean everything

      • best headphones at that price! they've got amazing bass

  • hi mikinoz, thanks for the heads up. will stop by HN today to check it out.

bobw, i can't find the PL_30s on focalprice, just other models (PL_11, 17, 18). They're US$10-18, so not sure what's equivalent. Thanks for your suggestion :)

endless, i had a look at the site, but couldn't find earphones. cheers.

  • Hope I am not too late to be of benefit.

Go with the Ultimate Ears 150s. They are le bomba!

I got the 150s (very good earphones) from Officeworks. Price matched of some random thing I found on StaticIce.

    E.g. http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ultimate+ears+1…

Cheapest is ARC ($26.65). Went in store (OW), price match (using ARC, that works out to $25.30), out of there in a matter of minutes. You can do this for any set and the Ultimate Ears are so good. The only reason I am not using my 150s is because I got the 220s for really cheap (of OzBargain).

    Hope I helped you!

    Kind Regards,
    Zelka

    P.S.
    Couple of things:
    - Needs to be in stock at ARC for pricematch to work (maybe phone ahead?)
    - ARC is pretty trusted, for $1 if you are close to an ARC outlet, go there instead?
    - Print out quote from first 3 hits of StaticIce, just in case. Have Phone Numbers, etc handy.

    • UE needs to be of high-end to be actually decent. Low ends beloow 220's are all so…meh~

FOr the price, stick to the PL30's

im pretty much a genuine audiophile. But i do understand everyone has their opinions…

      ^^

      janeymac - any updates ?!
