iPhone 6 Backlight Issue - Repair or Replace?

I've got an iPhone 6 with a backlight that occasionally dims for no reason in the top left corner.

A phone repair shop tried attaching a different screen for a minute to diagnose the problem and the problem seemed to go away, however they wanted to charge me $120 for the new screen.
Can someone suggest a cheaper way to go about this repair? I'm in Melbourne.
The phone works great otherwise.
Thanks.

Buy one off ebay and replace it yourself

Otherwise go to an apple store and get them to fix it (unless youve previously repaired it by a kiosk), it will be a similar cost to one of those kiosk places and you will get a warranty on the fix.

    • Apple said they don't repair anything like that, they just give you the option to swap the phone for a refurbished phone for something like $450.
      No thanks.

      • pretty easy to replace yourself.

check out this ifixit guide on how to do it yourself.

most sellers include the necessary tools to do the replacement

      • What do you mean they dont do anything like that? Yes they do. Did you go to an apple store or an apple reseller/Apple one shop?

Have you had your screen previously repaired by a kiosk before?

        • Sounds like it has at least been opened by a third party before. "A phone repair shop tried attaching a different screen for a minute"

        • @Morien:

True, good point. And there is likely warranty stickers on the inside that they would be able to see too

Apple support pricing for Australia - If it is only the screen it will cost you $208.95.

  • Is that something you have done with the iPhone or it is the manufacturing mistake? If you are sure that you have not anything to the phone then go and replace it from the Apple store.

    • It's already been opened by a third party and likely out of warranty anyway as its a few years old.. Apple won't exchange it now

      • Then it's better to pay extra money for replacing the screen.
