Bauhn or Soniq - Cheap and Nasty TVs

Bauhn 40" $333 or
Soniq 42.5 $399 at jb

both 1 year warrant.
Had a bauhn before it was a bit crap and broke. Not expecting too much at this price. Best picture is prime criteria. Dont care about tuner, or sound. Usb Mp4 playback a bonus.

i was even looking at the 32" at one point. Anteriffic

  • I've had multiple Soniqs in my possession for a number of years with very few complaints. One of them was a plasma so it wasn't overly great.

I currently have the 40" Soniq. And thorton - it depends on what size of a house you have. I am in an apartment and its the perfect size. If it were a house I would agree. The TV would also work perfectly for a bedroom.

And you it would be much easiser to get the Soniq replaced with another one as opposed to a Bauhn as Aldi don't always stock TV's.

  • for a small room only. not too worried about the replacement thing - both are only 1 year warranty, and the bauhn warranty was handled pretty well. (they collected from us, so easier in fact than dealing with a store). But still the picture of the bauhn wasn't great, very uneven backlight and generally a bit meh

  • I would try to get a deal from JB for Hisense. much better product.

  • Saw this deal on catch of the day. https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/top-250-tech-buys-606…

I'd recommend you neither and say buy hisense instead. Has 3 yr warranty.

  • Cheap! But need it by saturday :)

    • shame you can't wait longer.

we have had a Soniq E43V15C since June last year. it's fine as the main kitchen/family room TV - news, talk shows etc. it's not a sports watching tv that's for sure. was 284 (5% off voucher from advertised 299) at JB and has been 299 once or twice since then.

  • Cheapest Hisense at jb is $650 ish

Might just get the bauhn anyway, if its total rubbish I can do the 60 day return thingo

  • I got a Kogan 49" for $360 via one of the deals here. Was sold by DickSmith ebay at 20% off. TOLL delivered it in 2 bus. days.

I think it ends on 22nd Mar. However, it's still shown on e-bay. Maybe US time?

  • My experience with Soniq is good - pretty sure all these cheap TVs still use the same panels (previous gen) from LG or Samsung anyway, so it comes down to the features and sound. And reliability - but don't expect it to last as long as a sony/pana.

Sound was horrible but picture quality was good, however, the USB media player function did not work well and made videos pixelated as if they were low bitrate

  • hey so I got the bauhn. Picture seems pretty good (amazing really - my first led tv was 40" about 6 years ago, it cost about $1000, this picture is better without a doubt). Sound is utterly rubbish. but hey, its plugged into external speakers who cares. USB playback absolutely great for my needs. Picture good, repeats endlessly. $333, cant grumble
