Anyone Have Experience with Rug Cleaners?

I had a urine stained wool rug that needed cleaning so I emailed a particular rug cleaner for a quote. This is the reply I got:

" Thank you for your enquiry to have your rug cleaned.
The cost for urine damaged rugs is $45.00- $50.00 per square metre for wool. I do need to explain that we can guarantee that there will be no odours but cannot guarantee that all the urine marks will completely come out. The urine acutely turns to alkaline when it dry and this has a "burning" affect on the wool. We cannot completely reverse this issue.
We need the rug for about 10-15 days and there is pick up and delivery cost of $25.00 each way.
You are welcome to drop the rug to us for assessment. Our hours are 8-4 each week day and 9-12pm on Saturday.
If you have any further questions, or would like to arrange pick up, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
1. Whilst every effort is made to remove marks, some stains may be permanent. Devine Rug Care cannot guarantee total removal of all stains. Some residual stains may be due to pre-treatment by client which in some instances will set the stain.
2. If the rug is affected by urine or has been water damaged, the dyes may be destabilized and there could be colour run. Whilst all care is taken during the cleaning process, Devine Rug Care is not responsible if bleeding occurs. Correction of dye bleed, (if possible), is at the owner’s expense.
3. If repairs are required, or any problems are encountered during the cleaning process, or there is a variation to the quoted price, the owner will be informed and approval will be required before variations are undertaken.
4. If the client has previously used any product on the rug, Devine Rug Care takes no responsibility and cannot guarantee the effect this will have on the rug during the cleaning process.
Thank you "

I arranged for the rug to be collected which they did. They then informed me that the rug cannot be cleaned as it has a latex backing. They asked me to pick it up or offered to dispose of it. I asked for it to be returned and they are wanting to charge me $50 for delivery.

Is this common practice, or should I be weary of some sort of scam? Are they legit, or have they seen a rug they can keep and are trying to pull a quickie on me?

My big issue is that I was never informed that if the rug had a latex backing it could not be cleaned. If I knew that I might not have went ahead.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. This is the first time I'm having a rug cleaned so I'm not sure what is common accepted practice.

Wont get urine or amniotic fluid out. Underlay will be stained for life, funky smells will exist during humid wet days

This. They want your piss stained rug and are intending on putting it in their lounge room and then laugh at you for falling for their dastardly scheme.

  • My mate had a cat pee on the carpet and did some research on getting it out. When I used to do my carpets, I'd get one of those do it yourself machines (from Coles then). They are a good idea as you can just keep at it until you are happy. I think the result was better than commercial guys.
