Car got key'd what will my insurance do?

Whole car got key'd few nights ago. Every single panel of the car. Spoken to car insurance they advise i make a claim in order for car to be assessed and if i'm not satisfied with their decision i can retract the claim and get my excess ($695) back.

Q: What do car insurance normally do in these situations? I'm assuming the car would need a total respray as its literally all over every panel.

Q: What should i do from here?

Cheers,

PTAS

Unless you find the person who did it, to them you're at fault, thus you pay.

Get independent quote and avoid excess fee and increase in premiums.

    Did you piss someone off?

    • You might be able to get a 'doors shut' respiratory close to the cost of your excess, in which case you'd be better to get it done without insurance you may lose no claim bonus.

  • It will be considered a not at fault claim with excess applied, unless how ever you can identify the person who keyed your vehicle.

  • As above, if you can't identify who did it, it is class as an At Fault claim which means you pay the excess and lose your no claims discount.

If the body isn't like new I would say you could grab a touchup pen and go over the scratches then polish them out

I really hate vandalism, stealing something for gain is bad enough but, mindless vandalism doesn't even gain them something. Fortunately we have a garage now, but in the past we lost a side mirror to some mindless idiots that went down our street and smashed the side window of every car. Best of luck with the insurance company. Have you reported it to the cops?

    • did they catch the culprits? there was this homeless thug who started slashing people's tyres and the street camera's got him in Cabra.

This was years ago in Melbourne - we heard nothing from the cops but I bet it was a bunch of kids who come out of the nightclub at the end of street and decided to "have fun". We just had to claim it on our insurance but I really would've like to take the baseball bat to them.

      • i saw that cabra incident on the news before, just wondering did everyone get any compensation back?

        • No I don't think so. The guy went to jaol, he was homeless and couldn't afford to pay anything. So all in all, people ended up forking out of their own pockets through no fault of their own. I doubt the Insurance companies cared about something like this happening. Besides, the excess would cost too much more than a pair of tyres.

May the hand that did it wither and rot.

A friend recently had a key scratch removed at very low cost by a local panel shop. He is amazed at what they could do without a respray. So try a direct approach and avoid the insurance claim path if possible.

Hoping hes from Sydney and you know where he got it done?

      • sorry, Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne

    • Yeah I want to know too if he's in sydney.

  • Lowest scum of the planet are these types of people.

The only equivalent punishment is taking off their knee cap in public to be made an example of.

  • claim it via insurance probably the best thing. For me atleast. made a claim last year because someone completely keyed my car and My premium didnt go up as it wasnt my fault. Im with AAMI though might be different to other insurer.

  • Hey OP, can you tell us what happened? 😀
