Cheap Guest Bed Option

Hey guys

I staying away from my usual home interstate for 1-2 years. I usually go back home on weekends but also sometimes family comes upto stay with me. I'm just wondering what to do for bed. I need 2 single beds.

I'm thinking buying new bed will be a waste of money as I will have to sell/get rid of it in 1-2 years
Could go second hand but then may still need to buy matress

Or portable bed or inflatable air matress.

Just wondering if you have any other ideas

I had a Bestway queen size self inflating air mattress and that came in handy a lot! It's actually quite comfortable to sleep on and looks just like a normal bed once it's all made up (as it's bed height too, not just an air mattress on the floor). My sister slept on it for a good few weeks when she first moved in with me before she finally purchased a bed and a friend of mine also slept on it for about 3 months. Was very good quality… until someone borrowed it, wasn't careful when inflating it and it popped. Otherwise I'm sure it would have lasted me a long time!

I just did a quick search on eBay and found a single bed version:

    Hope that helps

Edit: Haha even better if you use C20HOME on eBay, you get 20% off… and don't forget cashback!

Can you get real mattresses, or at least thick foam mattresses and store them under the main bed?
Everything that isn't a real mattress sucks to sleep on more often than very occasionally.
If you buy second hand, look for people moving overseas or interstate or selling their holiday house furniture to get deals on lightly used furniture.

    • i was trying to keep cost under $200. So if i were to go real matress it would have to be second hand.

I guess foam matress might be cheaper. Will look into it.

You'd be surprised how often people sell new mattresses on Gumtree (buy them, sleep on them a few nights and hate them and then try to sell inc receipt).

Otherwise, per mskeggs, plenty of lightly used if you have no issue sleeping on a bed that is still in better condition than any hotel mattress you've ever slept on.

  • I saw a portable I think foldable bed frame from aldi once on here not too long ago but I can't seem to find the link. Didn't include mattress though and I think it was about $150 or so not really sure now tbh. Looking through the aldi and bed frames mattresses Ozbargain pages isn't helping me find or come up with anything sorry.

I found a hammock though so if that sways your way nicely for you I guess that could be an alternative haha lol was about 60-70 bucks expired now from aldi but I'm sure gumtree or eBay might come up with something.

Please don't go the inflatable route for family (my uncle had to do this and well truth be told there was no other way because there was a lot of us so some of us had to draw the short straws at family occasions and it was usually the young ones and it sucked bad got permanent back and sleep issues now from that years ago but no worries my body and mind is already f*ked) I mean I know it is better than nothing or a shitty couch (have done both numerous numerous many times) but not that much better.

A true proper bed frame and mattress is worth all the extra money you spend on it for your health and just peace of mind and just overall good hospitality unless you have a nice carpeted floor for sleeping then hey that could be another better option.

  • Get a proper japanese futon.
Easy to store and does wonders for the back.

  • Can anyone recommend a good quality inflatable air mattress? looking for a double size one, I see Kogan have them for about $80

  • Pallets off gumtree and a cheap mattress
