Coles Price Protection Ebay 20% Off honoured or not?

I have the Coles credit card with Account Cover Plus. (2 years price protection from same store, online or offline is fine)

I spoke with Latitude Financial (their insurer, but underwriter is Hallmark Insurance I believe) who told me that as long it is an Australian store it is OK. Ebay stores are OK according to the rep. I know Paypal works too.

But do they honour 20% off Ebay tech promotions, the ones that is common with Dell Australia, JB Hifi, Bing Lee, The Good Guys.?

Looking to buy the S8 via Bing Lee Ebay if so.

    Exclusions
Price Protection does not cover a price reduction:
    • due to price matching,
    • that is conditional on cash payment, or
    • offered as part of a special deal involving other items or benefits.

    • Wait, so if I preorder and get the gear VR I cant use price protection??

  • Yeah I saw that before, does that exclude Harvey Norman 15% (on their website, happens once a year or so) off phones deal as well then? Because that 15% is applied to all their phones and not just one.

I have claimed price protection from TGG ebay 20%. Just scan and send the invoice (better because it appears as full price). I did it with latitude financials too.

    • Sweet sounds good. You sent them the invoice of the original purchase I presume?

And for the discounted 20%. How do you show them the price? Screenshot? Does the screenshot say -20%. Or final line item price is all they care.

I believe if discount claim is less than 200 they dont really ask for proof.

      • I didn't show anything else but the original invoice. I didn't declare that it was bought via ebay with 20% discount. I got a lot of money back on a couple of products I bought during ebay 20% discount.

        Let's say a product costs $2000.
You pay $1600 to TGG ebay but original invoice is still $2000.
When TGG has the product for $1900, you claim price protection for $100.

For the discounted price yes, I showed a screenshot, no problems. I did claim like 5 times all of them successful. It was at the end of last year.

        • Oh i thought they would go by the amount you actually paid since it'll show up on your card transactions?

        • @kza2610: You just say that you paid X amount of money towards the product with the CC and they calculate the percentage. In my example, you pay $1600 with 28 degrees and the rest in cash or other CC.

That would mean they pay you the price difference minus 20%.

Oh I thought that would be fraud.

  • Wow that sounds sweet. What I'll be using it for is to buy the Galaxy S8 outright from Bing Lee, and hopefully claim when Bing Lee Ebay drops 20%. Is this possible? (I'm 99% sure its yes based on what you told me :))

    • I think I misunderstood you.

I'm afraid it is not possible to claim price protection as you need to show the final price of the product in order to make the claim. For it to work you have to buy the item from ebay 20% and claim price protection after when the store decreases the original price.

      • Ah?

Based on what you told me. Lets say the item is $1000 on their website. I buy it at $1000 from their website. 6 months down the line, their Ebay store RRP is now $950. and Ebay gives 20% off, ie Ebay final price is $760.

Will I be able to claim $240?

Or do I have to buy from Ebay originally as well (I don't think this is the case, because you mentioned even if you bought from Ebay, you get an invoice from the company that doesnt show it being purchased by Ebay, so one can pretend it was bought via the official store rather than Ebay)

It won't work. You can't claim price protection in cases where you can't show a final price. 20% discount is not a valid reason to make a claim.

Not sure if items bought one ebay have price protection.

        • @Colombian:

          Ah I see thanks.

Then next best option is to wait for Ebay 20% off. Buy it from ebay at 20% off the RRP.

Invoice will show full RRP price. And claim price discounts OFF their regular website store.

Potentially double dipping on the price fluctuation:
EG Item is RRP 1000 today on both the website and ebay store

Buy in a month when gives a potential EBay 20% off the RRP of 1000. Purchase price is then $800. Invoice from Ebay shows $800. Invoice from Seller shows $1000.

In 2 years, their website store RRP drops from $1000 to $700 for example. CLAIM $300

END RESULT: Purchase Item at $800 and claim back $300. Total net cost = $500.

        • @Zhotan: instead of claim $300, I think it would be claim 300 * (800/1000) = $240. I.e. they will see that you paid $800 of the $1000 bill through their card, rest from another source, so they adjust the refunded amount according to that ratio.

          Therefore total net cost = $800 - $240 = $560.

Yes, they do honour eBay 20% off prices, as long as the voucher is available to everyone, i.e. not a targeted promotion.

I just claimed back $80 on a TV that I originally bought from The Good Guys online. With the recent 20% off The Good Guys eBay voucher, the price came down below what I paid originally. I sent in a copy of my invoice and a screen cap of the eBay listing and claim was accepted.
