Shower Screen Options

I am planing to reno my bathroom. My question is about the shower screen. My plan is Single Fixed Panel, as it's frameless, simplistic and modern.

Such as
(a) http://www.yss.com.au/pages/product/1010_x_2000_single_fixed…

(b)
https://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/products/bathroom/showers…

However, I am worry about two issues:
1. Cold problem, esp in winter.
2. Water leaking problem. I am afraid the bathroom floor will be all wet and not so safe for kids and seniors.

Any suggestions? Should I choose (b) option from Reece as it's semi-frameless and potential to add a shower curtain on the open side. Or should I change my plan to shower screen with door?

I'd go semi frameless with a door and aluminium channel below door.
The frameless ones look great but water goes everywhere. Unless you have huge room and good fall.

  • I have a frameless single-panel shower screen. On the shower side of the glass all the way to the other wall there is a drain grate (like a swimming pool). As @Stewardo says, the water gets out. The bathmat usually gets 1/4 soaked. But the large drain stops pools of water. You do need really good tiling though.

I'd recommend a swinging door, like this one: https://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/products/bathroom/showers…

My bathroom is small and heats up really quickly in winter once the hot water is running, so it's not cold.

  • Single fixed panel only works if you have a large bathroom and good sloping to the drain (usually a large drain), so the water doesn't spill everywhere or pool for long.

Feeling colder is an issue in winter, but not a huge one. If you're wealthy enough to renovate/build a large bathroom suitable to one of these, you can likely afford a few dollars more to heat the water a little hotter so you don't feel the cold.

(Of course, we Australians love to pour ridiculous amounts of money into our homes, so in fact most people who have single fixed panel showers probably can't really afford that extra heating…)

  • I hope I'm not hijacking here, but I'm also in the market to replace my shower screens — are there an companies / installers that people can recommend ?

    • If you out in western sydney…I can recommend 'CWS Classic Showerscreens'. Those guys did my frameless showescreen and i was able to customize it abit with a glass shelf/support. Oh and they did a good deal with a custom mirror panel i wanted.

A couple of things to highlight.
    - How much splash would the shower-head or user create? If its more than a metre then I'd suggest an enclosed shower area.
    - What is the dimension of the shower area? As the previous posts mentioned…If its a large/long then wet area then the single fixed frameless would work well provide you request the installer to include a water bar at the entry.
    - Future Maintenance? From personal choice/experience. I'd recommend frame-less as its timeless, modern and clean. I've come across quite a few down-right dirty showers (framed/semi framed) where there have been dirt and mould trapped/ growing along the rubber glazing.
    - Also from personal experience… If its the most popular bathroom in the house (as in the one guests would visit) then why not go all out or at the very least pay a bit more #budget

Renovations are always stressful so make sure you plan well in advanced (as you are now) and have a little extra cash as your wife aka interior designer will want this and that because it "works well".

    • My shower area is 900x1000. (the shower panel is 1m).

  • heads up for you guys looking for a supplier - stay away from australia wide supplies.
