PS4 Pro Worldwide Shortage - Sony AU Store

Like a few others here at ozbargain I purchased a MyRepublic $200 off PS4 PRO voucher for the Sony online store.

Put an order through and I am now being told there is a "world-wide shortage of this model with no ETA". Has anyone heard anything like this?

Aussie retailers have plenty of stock, so it seems very unusual to me. They won't give me any rough idea of how long it will take for stock to arrive, or a reason for the shortage. I've worked in electronics manufacturers before and generally the idea is to at least give a vague timeframe (eg 1-2 months, 3-4 months, etc) or if no timeframe is available, give a reason (eg. parts availability)

I wanted this PS4 for a few weeks I have off soon recovering from some health issues, but it looks like I can't do that, unless I refund the order - which would completely waste the money I spent on the myrepublic voucher.

Stock issues like this were more of a Nintendo thing, historically..

  • Expires tomorrow so either way make sure you decide in the next 24 hours

  • They are obviously putting your order at the lowest priority possible. You either use the voucher and take possibly many months to get the PS4 or take the hit and buy it from a local store.

  • Not all companies have the best inventory management systems. In this case the Sony store hasn't been able to confirm their next shipment of consoles from SCEA, it's not that unusual. It's likely that the first batch was produced and distributed in limited numbers worldwide for the launch and they've yet to get into a proper rhythm for ongoing shipments. Hang in there and keep questioning them - you'll get your answer soon enough I hope!
