Beware MightyApe Set to Steal Your Account Credits in 12 Months

Hi X,

You currently have $XXX.XX credit in your Mighty Ape account.

From today, we are beginning to apply a 12 month expiry date to account credit on Mighty Ape. Previously we didn't set any expiry date, which unfortunately doesn’t really work as inevitably some customers become inactive for a year or more and the credit is never spent.

The credit currently in your account will expire a year from now on 31 March 2018, but don't worry, we'll email you again closer to the time so you don't forget to spend it.

Follow the link below to review your account statement:

We encourage you to spend your credit within the next 12 months before it expires.

To spend your account credit, simply find something you want to buy and then select the “Account Credit” option in the “Payment” step of the checkout. If your order > total exceeds your available credit, you will be able to pay for the balance of your order using a different payment method e.g. credit card.

To visit Mighty Ape and find something you’d like to buy, please follow the link below:

If you have questions or concerns about your account credit, we’d be happy to work something out, so please drop us an email.

Kind regards,

From the monkeys at Mighty Ape! @(^_^)@

  • Well simply don't purchase any credit or make sure that you get refunded via the same payment method.

It shouldn't be a surprise that any form of credit/gift card/gift voucher expire. Whether they should or not is a different story. Otherwise you could say the same thing about Woolworths/Myer/David Jones stealing your money.

    • Well they said it didn't expire so I didn't go trough the mental effort to argue for a full refund. I feel like an idiot now for not doing so and honestly I half deserve it for (1) Pre-Ordering a game (which ended up being massively defective - Mafia III) and (2) not arguing for a refund and just accepting a 'change of mind' to save the trouble.

  • Where's the larceny/fraud?

  • It seems reasonable. From an accounting perspective it makes a lot of sense.

  • update: they agreed to give me a refund
