Cat Problems around Front and Back Yard

Hi all, I seem to have a cat problem. Over the past few months, a few cats have been coming on my front and back yards and been pooping all over the place. They also killed a pigeon a few weeks back and left the remains in my back yard. I'm wondering what are some solutions to get rid of them.

    Bikies

Or buy a cat repellant spray

    • Could you suggest any specific repellents or will any suffice?

      • Hell's Angels cat repellent works well, can't find any pussies when you cop a whiff of that

      • cats generally bury their poop, so if you find poop its most likely from some other animal. In Australia I would be more worried about visits from snakes, spiders, flies, mosquitos, cockroaches, possums, besides mormons, real estate agents, drunken idiots who throw rubbish in the hedge and break the letter box, just to name a few. Anybody knows of a repellent for any of those?

      Bear Urine might work

Get a super soaker/water gun and 'shoot' the cats. (Mix a little vingar with the water would be better)

Sprinkle chili powder/pepper/curry powder on the garden bed or anywhere they poop.

Find out where their entry point is. For example they walk on the fence, smear some Vicks Vaporub on the fence. (They don't like the smell and don't like sticky feet.)

    And bikies with dogs.

Cat is tresspassing. Nothing wrong with spraying water. I do it to kids on my lawn

Chilli powder WILL NOT harm cats/dogs. They don't like the smell of it, the cat/dog may sneeze and walk away. Even if they lick it, it will not cause any harm. Just like human.

I use chili powder to deter my cat and dogs for digging in the garden/pot plants. I also sprinkle chili powder on the carpet/rug to stop the cat use it as a scratching post…and IT WORKS…the dogs & cats still live happily in the house!

You can put bottles of water and it scares &he cats . If that doesn't work for you may have to mix dog poo with water and spray around the places you have issues

    Get a dog?

  • A motion sensor sprinkler system? When the cat comes into the garden the sprinklers start up and the cat runs away. Not necessarily the below one but you could look around for an alternative. The cat will soon learn and you don't need to be present. You also don't need to put down chilli powder or any other irritant into the garden to get you the next time you are gardening.

      Sounds nice, but too expensive.

      • I would look around for similar devices, there are probably cheaper ones.

Do you have lots of bare soil in your yards? Apparently this is like heaven to cats. We wanted to start a mini herb garden, so cleared two planter boxes of all plants. Neighbour's cat promptly started using it as her litter box.

We just had to put mulch over the top to deter it (apparently they don't like walking on it), my mum also sprayed a concoction of chilli, ginger and other strong smelling spices on top and it stopped…at least until it rained and a bloody family of bush turkeys mixed up all the mulch and soil searching for grubs!

    • Citrus peel scattered around plants will also keep them out of vegie gardens.

  • Warn the neighbors about their roaming cats, then register the complaint with the local council.
I have had similar problems & the native bird life has been decimated.
If nothing results, then be discreet with eradicating these damn pests & their irresponsible owners.

You know what I call cats, slippers. All these moggies with no collar and bell are vermin. They are only pets when they are in the owners yard ~ a dead cat is a good cat, these ferral pests are best disposed of quietly and discreetly. Im 100% with FishesBum on his comment but not about legit complaining as it just wont work. Council dont care, owners dont care ~ becuase of they did the cat would be on a bloody leed like a dog!

I've used orange and mandarin peels with good results. I had to smear the rind on the places the cats walked. It was mostly a concreted area though.

I left the peels nearby and it stopped them . I only had to do it once.

I was a little tired of orange juice, etc afterwards, but it was worth it.

  • Leave a saucer of milk out with an asprin in it

while I dont agree cats should be let outside, I dont recommend killing them

      • My pet rabbit got torn to pieces, but a collared cat with an irresponsible owner that cant keep their own pets on their own property. We managed to take a picture of the cat as it was sitting next to the body, but never found the owner. Now I have to lock my own pets up in a cage every night because of a trespasser, a quick death for the cat would be too good after what mine went through.

        • I had pet rabbits growing up as a kid. We had a dog so no cat dramas. We left them to run free except when they had babies since they just freeze and get drenched in slobber

Maybe not the option you are looking for though.

          Dog was an german shepard

    1. Identify the cat or animal
    2. Identify the owner
    3. Deliver the poops to the owners front door
  • A bowl of milk and paracetamol may help control unwanted cats on one's property.
