Selected Booze Half Price @ BWS QV Melbourne

630

G'day

BWS Q.V are going through a major refurbishment and need to clear a lot of excess beer, wine and spirits.

I have taken a photo of stock that has been deleted from the store. The wine that has been deleted (no photo) has also got 25% off starting today in any 6 so there are some lines that will be 75% off.

While the deleted stock lasts.

Hope this helps

Cheers

in just about every variation you may need!

In seriousness, I do hope that this clearance is Oz-wide. I've bought some pretty incredible one-off clearance items thru BWS the past couple of years. Last round topped it off - Ended up buying items I priced out at Dan Murphys as costing $495 for $140. And that included 3 bottles of Billecart-Salmon Champagne for $50!

It isn't. Just at this store in cbd Melbourne.

The deleted lines are on a store by store bases.

When we are issued a new layout for a category the space management team delete lines by 50% to make room.
        Bloody great pickup the billecart!

        • Thanks for your insights wato21, been trying to piece together BWS' clearance approach. Interesting trying to guess the clearance cycles and which store clears which stock.

Some of the beer is not reduced. Is it 50%off the ticketed price?

    • Might be a few missing special tickets. Just ask the staff.

How does banning an ozbargain post stop alcoholics buy alcohol?
If anything, it lets them save some money for food and rent.
An addict will always buy their substance first.
If its cheap then they won't have to sacrifice other important things.
Expensive alcohol doesn't cure alcoholism, it just reinforces poverty.

Jumping straight from internet posts regarding value propositions on clearance booze to the evils of alcohol consumption… yes, your logic is flawless. I'm willing to engage the second part of your argument, but it simply doesn't follow that this kind of post should be banned.

      Jewish Proverb;
Give strong drink to the one who is perishing,
      and wine to those in bitter distress;
let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.

      I'll drink to that

Car posts should be banned, as someone who's worked in a carshop I can tell you that they're far from glamorous. In fact the amount of hoons these places enable far outway the social good that driving does for the average consumer.

Good point and while we are at it we should ban food ads because everything I eat turns into s**t.

As someone who's also worked in a bottle shop I can tell you that alcoholics don't pay attention to prices, they will buy their regular booze no matter what else is on sale.

There used to be a local alcoholic mother that would come in multiple times over the day starting in the morning, buying 2-3 30mL $5 bottles of vodka at a time. When the shop ran out of vodka she would switch to gin, then to whatever else was available in the 30mL format. I always refused to serve her because I knew she drove her kids home from school, but the manager never seemed fussed with seller her the stuff.

Every other problematic drinkers I would see bought cask wine, usually 5L each afternoon or each second afternoon - can't get much cheaper than $6 for 30 standard drinks or whatever it was - no bargains would change that.

I always saw the bargain specials as being taken up mostly by people willing to try something new and not daily drinkers. Don't get me wrong, alcohol is terrible for you, but mostly if you're drinking it in excess and regularly. Nothing wrong with an occasional drinker getting a bargain now is there ;)

    • I only buy booze on special to get other people drunk, making me feels smarter.

      • What ever floats your boat maan.

Lots of cheap beer, wasn't any spirits reduced when I went in. Asked the staff and they said it's just two shelves of beer and wine

  • Price match dan murphy?

    Alcoholic walks in:

    Alcoholic: Any discounts on offer?
    Store attendant: Not today sorry.

Alcoholic turns around and goes home to have a glass of milk instead.

Seems joke comments outweigh the useful ones.
For anyone that's interested I just went in at around 10. Limited stock, got a few boutique beers - stock moving quick as the word spreads through the surrounding offices.

  • Picked up a few beers at half price, cheers

Anyine found this sale at other stores?

  • I went in my lunch break, about 90 minutes ago, and there was bugger-all there that was discounted. Average discounted off a handful of spirits was about $10, but that simply made it on par with Dan Murphy's. Not worth going unless they discount more stock.

Hmmm…I wonder what it would take to convince my local BWS they need a refurb, too? ;-)

  • Some good prices on the craft beers
