Which Phone? (HTC10-Galaxy S7-LG G5)

I have been given the choice of these models:

            HTC 10
            Galaxy S7
            LG G5

Interested in your experience/advice as I've never owned any of these models or brands.

Got a HTC 10 myself; can't go wrong with one. If you drop your phone heaps like I do, you'd be better getting a HTC as there's less glass bits to break compared to Samsung

    • The screen polarisation on the HTC 10 drives me wild.. I wear polarised sunnies, which means the screen is black when I vertically orient the unit.

    Galaxy s7
Water resistant should be in all phones.

    Galaxy S8

My G5 going strong, previous owner of Boot Loop G3

I also have the spare battery for G5 which get me through the whole day, should only cost around 40 bucks im assuming
If you get the over sea model you can put 2 sim cards in for free uber promotions, etc etc

  • Galaxy S7 vs HTC 10 is tough, nothing between them as far as specs go and both received android nougat updates recently I believe. However the Galaxy S7 has the better camera which probably makes it the winner; although I personally think I'd prefer using the HTC interface (sense 8) compared to Samsung's touchwiz but you get used to it. If something goes wrong I'd probably trust Samsung to be more responsive since they have a better presence, also with stores in major cities, shopping centres etc.

DO NOT DO NOTTTTT BUY LG!!
currently have g4 and when i go do a backup on pc, the app tells me my phone doesnt have enough space to do backup.
    im like what!?!?!
so i talk to support and they tell me to delete/move some things off my internal memory to free up space, that is, open up file browser and play with internal folder structure and fingers crossed you dont stuff your mobile.
Absolutely pathetic!! I will be trying to get my money back. 2 year warranty, only had it for 6 months.
Itunes, samsung, sony doesnt have this bloody problem.
But lg, ooo lets backup your whole mobile onto your mobile and then copy across to pc. Bloody idiots!!!

HTC 10. Has a more optimised version of Android compared to the S7, has USB Type C (and faster charging), and doesn't have a glass back.

The S7 might have a better camera and better water resistance, but I'd personally rather lose those features than have to deal with TouchWiz.

The G5 is pretty good too, but I personally don't like LG's skin.

  • Where should I buy a HTC 10? Harvey Norman has them for $799, not sure if I can do better

AFAIK It's $699 at JB, might even be able to haggle it down a little.

      • For reference, I bought mine for $999 about a week after it came out last May from JB Hi-Fi

  • Galaxy S7

    Few features that I love and use regularly;
    * Great quality and quick focusing camera.
    * Battery life is more than enough for a day, and if need be I can quickly top up a decent percentage in around 10-15mins. Latest update has improved battery optimisation even more.
    * IR blaster, underrated feature. Beyond being able to use the phone as a remote for your TV, using an app called beep'n'go you can store loyalty/gift/discount cards and scan them at checkout. The difference with this is that you can use it on a standard barcode reader at any checkout. This feature alone has slimmed my wallet down considerably.

    Things I'm not a fan of;
    * speaker is badly positioned, and doesn't sound spectacular
    * fingerprint scanner is quick when it works…terrible when it doesn't. I ended up storing the same finger three times which helps a bit.

    Got both.

Only things that really differentiate it are Camera, Music Quality and the build of the phone.Metal or Glass.
Touchwiz probably isn't as smooth as sense but then just install Pixel Launcher or Nova Launcher.

Would you just run stock software or do you want to install different roms?
Battery is about the same for both, both have fast charge.

    HTC 10

Better audio than s7 especially when using headphones
    Smoother software experience
Unlocked bootloader does not void warranty
    faster fingerprint scanner

    S7

    Waterproof and dust resistance
Unlocking the bootloader will void Samsung warranty
    Better Camera

Never, ever get an LG phone. When I used to sell mobile phones, maybe 2-5% of our total sales were LG devices (G3 then the G4) but I would say upwards of 60% of our warranty concerns were these phones. I've no personal experience with the G5, however I have lost all faith in LG's mobile division for some time.

So it comes down to the HTC vs the Galaxy, and I'd have to go with Samsung.

HTC are still in a rather tenuous position, as a company. Luckily their VIVE division seems to be keeping it afloat, but I believe they were bleeding money from their mobile phone department. Conversely, Samsung have a very good market position.

The key difference is that Samsung's customer service is second only to Apple. They've been opening stores up which makes it a hell of a lot easier to seek a quick remedy for any issues with your device, which is highly important in this day and age. On this factor alone, I recommend Samsung above all else, especially since Android devices tend to be less stable than their fruit counterparts. The features of the phones themselves, apart from LG's modular schtick, are more or less identical, in a real world sense.

  • Thanks for the responses, I was leaning towards Samsung, was hoping to get the S8 however it has not been listed as an approved model, will still try.

I feel I got burned by Samsung before (no pun intended) when I purchased a $5k led TV in 2009, they never worked out the apps for it properly and then it was kinda left and overlooked as new models came out. In the end I prefer a seperate android TV box, but the lack of support and firmware updates annoys me to this day.

Also I should state I'm an Apple fanboi by default and will no doubt be keeping a second personal jailbroken iPhone… :)

  • Homtom HT17Pro $115 for unbeatable value and quality. Don't pay for a billion dollar advertising campaign.

    • Good suggestion but not in the choice. I think OP is getting the phone on a plan by the looks of it.

      • Crazy.

Check out the professional reviews of each and then decide for yourself.
They cover all the pros and cons of each.
All votes here are for PERSONAL reasons and PERSONAL experience which may not suit you.

Already done, I'm after personal experiences as I stated. Professional reviews aren't always unbiased and a longer term analysis of the phone.

      Anyway I've purchased an S7 today :)
