Up to 15% off Europcar Base Rate

    lol… How is that a bargain ???

  • +4

Worst rental company I have ever dealt with.

    Discounts disappear.

Last time I used them I found the 'bargain' I booked was too small, so they had me over a barrel and charged me a good 20% over the rack rate for the replacement, then hit me with additional costs at the end.

Would never deal with them again.

    Really bad reviews on TripAdvisor

    • just to clarify, you booked the wrong car and then expected a bigger car for the same price?

      • It says they charged him 20% over the rack rate of the bigger car…

        • Actually I 'upgraded' to a cheaper, bigger car and they charged me way over rack rate …

Upgraded from luxury E series Merc to a basic people mover which ended up costing about 30% more than the merc

    • What other rental company have you dealt with?

      What additional costs?

  • Book with a broker and get more than 15% off all the time.

    • I used the Entertainment book last time and got a Camry for 10 days for just over $200… I can still remember the days when I used to pay almost $100 per day to hire car…

    • Where do you find this broker?

I need a car for 4 days in Cairns.

  • Note if you're booking for 2 days or more and far in advance there is 20% off on the front page.

DON'T USE EUROPECAR. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Absolute rubbish rental company. my father was driving an Alfa Romeo and the clutch blew. They are blaming him for the clutch damage and charging over 1000 for it. He has been driving manual cars for 25 years. Very experienced. Even mechanic has written to them saying clutch damage can be accumulative seeing is a rental. No luck. Now have sent debt collectors to chase money. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! I CAN GUARANTEE I WILL NEVER USE EUROPECAR AND WILL AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

  • Most rental companies will have some bad reviews.

I had booked a Mitsubishi ASX for last weekend from Brisbane airport. They offered me an upgrade to a Mercedes GLE 250d for an extra $100. I took it and it was great. Dropped off the car and was on my way 2 mins later. No complaints from me but I have friends who they tried to charge for 'damage'. Probably some over enthusiastic branch owners as opposed to a general company policy.

Also never pay for excess reduction. Your credit card may cover this or save yourself the dollars and buy excess reduction insurance from Allianz or some other online vender.

I need a car soon for 3 days.
I just looked up the price (even with discount, NOPE! lol, no way)

    These guys are awful.
OzBargain or Whirlpool put me on to Ace Car Rental, it's only a THIRD the price of Europcar.

    No goddamn chance thanks.

  • My only complaint is my booking was about $140 online, but they make you pay in person so they can sneakily add insurance without telling you and hope you don't realise. But a lot of companies do this.

It was about 280 for the mid tier insurance or something, so after a few stern words she apologized and adjusted her "mistake".

Oh and also 10% minimum is pretty much always available.

I returned a truck to Blackburn branch (from hoppers crossing) with the tank full. And they charged me fuel surcharge claiming I didn't fill up the tank. I regret no taking photo of the tank indicator. My fuel receipt wasn't good enough. I challenged the hoppers crossing branch how they determined I didn't fill up the tank anD they just kept telling me I didn't fill it up. I gave up trying. Worse company ever.

  • There was a story on them on ACA and todaytonight a few years ago.

Here is the video from today tonight of anyone interested

  • Wow … so much hate for Europcar …

    Here's 3 facts

    1. They always have 10 and 15% off deals - all anyone has to do is be bothered to look up the website

Here' is a 20% off deal
    https://www.europcar.com.au/deals/early-week-car-hire

    1. If you earn enough status points - then you'll get a free weekend rental or $15, $30, $45 off your rental. I used my free weekend rental (pickup on Thurs, return on Sun - and it saved me over $250 easy).

    2. Depending on your status tier, you'll get a free upgrade - and with mine, I always booked the cheapest, dirtiest, crustiest, smelliest, pooiest manual car … and usually upgrades to an auto sedan, but I like the VW Golfs the best … or if I have alot of luggage, then ASX

But if you are just after the cheapest car, then it probs wont be Europcar … but then again, depending on seasonality and demand, I have paid less than $150 for 7 days rental quite a few times.

PS. This is not a deal … if it is, then anyone can feel free to copy and paste the 20% off URL as a deal … LOL

    • I just rented a golf and the guy said it was the last golf available. After that apparently vw aren't letting them use their cars as hire cars anymore or so the guy reckons.
