Telstra 2GB Data + Unlim Calls $35/Mo

Bit of a Telstra plan hack here…

Totals:
2GB of data (shared with all mobiles on the bill)
Unlimited calls, SMS & MMS
$35/mo

Step 1. Sign up for Go Mobile Casual Plus with no inclusions - $20/mo
This can't be done self-serve. You must contact 24x7 chat, call Telstra or go into a store (I recommend contacting chat - they're the most reliable in my opinion).

Step 2. Add on a 2GB data pack - $15/mo
This data pack includes 2GB of data and unlimited calls+SMS.

Simple as that, enjoy your new unlimited calls plan with 2GB of data for $35/mo. :)

Step 3 (optional). Add handset repayment. For example, the handset repayment for an iPhone SE 64GB is $33/mo. This totals $68 for an iPhone SE, unlimited calls+SMS and 2GB of data. Usually this is $77/mo with 3GB of data or $67/mo with 1GB + $550 calls. $68/mo with 2GB isn't too bad. This results in a 24mo contract, though the early termination fee I believe is only the remaining cost of the handset - $33 * remaining months in the above case. I don't believe you incur any fees for the Casual Plan Plus termination.

—————-Relevant contract terms (reference these if chat/store/etc is being difficult about things):————-
You CAN add a device repayment to this. This can be either 12 or 24mo.

Device Payment Contract
You may purchase a new eligible handset to use with your plan, and pay off that handset over 12 or 24 interest-free monthly payments with a Device Payment Contract.

You SHOULDN'T have to pay any early termination fees with the above, beyond the remaining cost of the device.

If you cancel your plan or Device Payment Contract before the end of your Device Payment Contract term, you’ll need to pay the balance of any remaining handset payments.

The plan DOES exist.

*see table in PDF here. Note $20 plan with no inclusions.

This may be posted as a deal on my behalf if it's deal worthy. :)

Even standard Telstra prepaid you get 3GB for $30. I don't get it.

    • You don't get unlimited calls on Telstra prepaid for only $30/month. This is only included in $40/month recharges on Freedom Plus.

No, you just get unlimited to Telstra and roughly 12 hours talk time to other providers. You get unlimited SMS. You also get more data. You also pay less money.

        • For professional/business use 12 hours of calls isn't enough. That's only around 20 minutes a day. Around 25-30 hours is where I could comfortably say it's equivalent to unlimited - that's around when a user doesn't have to worry about going over because of lengthy hold times and what-not.

    • Yeah I honestly don't get why people would bother doing this when they can get 99% of the Telstra network on Aldi (2.25GB with rollover for $25/m) or Telechoice (3GB for $30/m).

    • Personally I agree - I'm on the Optus 10GB plan, but for some it may be good.

I put a relative on the plan as they required 100% reliability (Optus has had 3+ outages here in the last year) and decent customer service. Telstra was the only real option. They also receive a $10 loyalty credit for keeping the two plans on the one bill - if they cancelled the plan they would lose this. With this it's effectively $25 in their case.

Overall, it's more something for more professional use, rather than extreme budget use. If you're after extreme budget, there's plenty of better options.

*Just to back up my point:l
      **Aldi
      :

ALDImobile services are provided for personal use and not for commercial use or for use as a permanent connection.

        1. REGISTERING AND USING YOUR SERVICE
1.1 We provide the Telstra Pre-Paid service to you mainly for your personal use
        • So Aldi still holds the major upper ground if they're unhappy with the usage amount, never really a good thing.

TeleChoice have a slightly fairer fair-use policy, allowing noting business customers are sometimes accepted if they adhere to the rest of the fair use policy (generic stuff like no mass SMSing, etc etc), but at $30/mo it's getting to the point that for some the $5/mo extra to be directly with a provider is worth it. Also note Telstra support has a lot more authority to do things like bill adjustments if required, helpful if you ever need to call them up.

Overall, Aldi says they don't want business or professional customers - they want personal consumer customers. TeleChoice implies they don't want heavy business users, though (I assume) would allow moderate-heavy legitimate use.

  • This is an awesome hack if it works. The link to 2GB data pack opens a PDF which does not include any such $15/month option. Please fix OP.

    • Fixed, somehow stuffed up the copy-paste…

I can confirm the $20 + $15 part works for unlimited calls and 2GB data, though I can't confirm if the device repayment part works… But it's in the contract, so there's no reason why it shouldn't be honored.

$30 unlimited calls and text 3gb data plus bonus weekends data.

Boost uses full telstra network unlike aldi mobile.

  • I get 8GB for $40 with telstra with the same inclusions. Who lasts on 2GB a month?

This month I've used 20MB of my 1.2GB. I have wifi at work and home, and I pre-download playlists and podcasts for the commute between. When I'm on holidays I sometimes buy extra data.

    • 2GB is enough if you avoid videos and music streaming.

      • +1

True. i guess there would be a small minority that doesnt regulary watch vidoes on their commute/work. And who also dont want or need to pay $5 for an extra for 6GB.

I steam with apple music which is data free on telstra anyway.

  • I get 3GB on optus for an average of $18/month prepaid - there's usually prepaid sim cards around for half price ($15) so I very rarely recharge normally. On a plan you don't have that flexibility. I think you'd have to be a bit dumb to go on a plan unless it was way cheaper than prepaid, because you miss out on deals like that. Plus, you will end up spending more because when you run out of data they can charge you, and somehow when you're on a plan their notifications on how much data you are using are very very late to encourage you to overuse it. Plus there's no roll-over and you can never use all your data because you're afraid of getting too close to the limit and triggering extra charges.

In the context of professional or business use porting (or changing) numbers constantly and going without credit at times simply isn't an option. For personal use this may be viable. Also the individual I was finding a plan for wanted Telstra as their network due to realiability issues locally on Optus. The Optus alternative would be 10GB/12GB + unlimited calls for $30/$36/$40* a month. At these data amounts you simply don't have to worry about going over - as long as you're not constantly streaming or downloading large files you have enough every month. As a percentile thing it's also easier to get closer to 100% without going over - you can simply use ~9.8GB (98%) and you're basically getting the most out of it anyway. Also there's various apps to cut off usage once a certain amount is hit.
There was also the possibility of adding a device repayment to the plan which is appealing with the Telstra offer. It adds up to $68/mo for unlimited calls and 2GB with an iPhone SE - much better than 500 minutes + 1GB for $67/mo or $77 for unlim + 3GB.
