Hi all - I was reading this article (link to article below) about the use of points - unfortunately it is only for Business and First Class flights but I thought it might interest some of you - what's your opinion?

I dont see much benefit, most just find award flights and book using points or miles direct, for the latter this is the place to find out how it works.

I've been buying AA (American Airlines) and AS (Alaskan Airlines) miles for years and Qantas points to sit up the pointy end at around one third of the J/F price. Sure you need to spend time finding the flights but gee the rewards are excellent, why use a middle man?. Using points or miles in Y (economy) long haul is a waste.
So my last two long haul were BNE/HKG/BNE in J (bus. class) normally around $4.5K used miles was $1750, Europe BNE/HKG/CDG (Paris) return in J $2800 saved about 4 grand. All flights on OneWorld airlines QF/CX/QR (+ EK via QF).
