Computer Monitor Recommendation

hi guys

Now having ordered Lenovo E470 in sale last week. I need to sort out the other accessories like monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.

Gumtree has number of monitors at $50-60. Just noticed there was a sale of monitors at Dell for around $200 which number of people had liked.

Would like to minimise spend on monitor unless it is really required. The use of monitor is primarily for viewing excel, powerpoint stuff so would be good it is reasonable size.

Any recommendations on models/brand or things to consider?

thanks

Had one of these in the past, couldn't fault it.

    • he he ! Not that tech savvy to view excel on that !

  • Monitors are just… monitors. If all you require is just viewing video and documents you don't need anything specific, just perhaps consider the screen size, resolution and whether you want the monitor to support pivot / tilt / VESA mount.

Other things like panel type, refresh rate, dynamic contrast ratio etc. are not really things to worry about, unless you're looking at competitive gaming or doing colour sensitive work.

    • Perfect mate.

      • Things to look for:

        preferably 1080p
has HDMI input but not an issue if it only has DVI. You can buy an adapter or a cable that has HDMI on one end and DVI on the other.
        doesn't have any dead pixels

that's it. Good luck scrounging on Gumtree.

he is wrong. if you bring the cheap model of any brand and the same brand but higher IPS model next to next to compare, you will see it's much different on clarity which is very important for long time use, especially for text viewing like excel. generally saying don't buy the cheapest model, and IPS model always better.

  • Checkout dell dfo, you can get a Dell 20" Monitor, model P2017H 19.5" viewable for $130

    • ^^this. Additional remarks: monitors are not "just monitors"; cheap brands may have low quality panels with uneven or shifted colours, colour bands, etc. Electronics inside lesser brands typically is not very unreliable. Read some reviews. Dell is pretty good with good warranty (and so is LG mentioned above).

Mate I would just get any 21-24 inch 1080p IPS monitor within your budget. Like scrimshaw said there's nothing much other than that too important unless you are doing more Gaming/Colour sensitive work.

    • Yes thanks - that was my take out of comments too !

  • Came to post and saw this. looking for a monitor/TV screen for my home office. Lots of emails, documentation, multiple applicactions so i can benefit from duel screen setup.

with all the resent ALDI deals, whats the feedback?

    whats your setup?

    • Aldi only sells TVs, but don't think they ever sold LCD monitors

beware some cheap TV's do not do computer inputs very well (due to lack of 1:1 pixel mapping) and as a result text can either look garbled or blurry.

If it's monitors you're after go to MSY, and if you want them to do TV duties you can look into buying a cheap digital Set Top box.

  • Just grab a cheap second hand 19" monitor from Gumtree $15-$30

    • Not a bad price.

  • Anyone have recommendations for a 22-24" with VESA mounts?

Same criteria as OP, word processing, web browsing. Want to get 2 screens with either height adjustability, or VESA.

    TIA!
