Telstra Freedom Plus vs Pre-Paid Plus - No more unlimited calls vs No more Google Play credit

I have been on the Freedom Plus for over a year now which included unlimited calls to any number in Australia but more importantly I could use my $40 recharge in Google Play. Apparently now you only get unlimited calls to Telstra numbers only and any other calls will be deducted from your recharge credit.

The Pre-Paid Plus does include unlimited calls to any number now and with more data (although it's not a priority for me) but no more Google Play which sucks as I would always rent movies and purchase apps.

If I move to Pre-Paid Plus I can't go back to Freedom Plus.

Does anyone know if there's a way around this or what my best option would be? If I can't get Google Play anymore what would be an alternative pre-paid plan that uses the Telstra network?

Thanks in advance.

  • Never mind, I sorted it out. I will move to Pre-Piad plus and keep my son on Freedom Plus and use his credit on Google Play.

  • "…now you only get unlimited calls to Telstra numbers only and any other calls will be deducted from your recharge credit."

I'm still using my Telstra Freedom plus everyday for calls and haven't been charged/deducted for any non Telstra calls and I can still use my Google play credits as well.

    • I have looked but can't see how much worth of calls you get with $40 recharge on F+.

With $30 you get $700 worth but unclear on $40.

  • OP where did you get this information from? My mum is on the Freedom Plus plan and recharging $40 each month - I just checked online and she has no calls being deducted from her recharge credit. Can you provide your source?

    • The Telstra operator had told me but didn't make sense, as the link below given by jpv states unlimited calls "To standard Aust numbers. Includes MessageBank retrieval" but on their app this isn't visible. I am guessing they haven't updated their app.

    • This is what I told them over the phone that $40 on F+ included unlimited calls, but their system is saying unlimited calls to Telstra numbers only. It doesn't clarify how much calls you get to non-Telstra numbers.

You shouldn't be charged for calls if you are on Telstra Freedom Plus.
The only time you will be charged is if your unli calls bundle has expired and you have credit remaining.
This is a rare case and only happens if you recharge less than $30 and your credit rolls over but the bundles don't.
You can easily check by going to https://m.telstra.com, clicking on balance remaining and you should see the bundles there.
