Moonbox - no longer working, what are the alternatives?

For those who use the Moonbox for their Asian drama/tv fix, the box has stopped working for the past 2 weeks, I'm presuming it's not coming back. Anyone in the same boat? What options are you considering? A family member has used the moonbox religiously for HK/TVB livestream and VOD playback, so looking at other options on the market, possibly BlueTV? Anyone have experience with alternative devices such as BlueTV?

  • H-TV

    • Around $100 more than BlueTV, so kinda pricey given I only need the live stream and playback for TVB.

      • never used others other than TVPAD,

we have 2x HTV2 works fine. parents watch both TVB and chinese channels, it has apps for drama, movies and live channels as well.

been using it for about 3 years now. out lived the TV-PAD 2 and 3

        • that's a good sign regarding it's life span to date, i heard that BlueTV is from the same manufacturers as TVPAD, which is concerning given the demise of TVPAD 2 & 3.

    • Hey mate, have you notice if your H-TV pulls a lot of bandwidth but still stutters?

My parents use one and having 100/40 NBN, whenever they use the H-TV, no one else in the house can access the internet yet for whatever reason they will still stutter.

Normal speed goes up to 96 with drops to about 50 during peak at night.

      • Yeah I noticed it sometimes but mainly when they are watching the live streams at a particular time in the evening or morning that it happens. Doesn't happen that often when you watch the archived shows.

        • Hmm, so it's most likely a lack of bandwidth on the streaming services part.

Have you notice it hogging the whole of your bandwidth though?

        • @ProjectZero:

no not really, most of the time its running on the TV and my parents watching it and in between occasionally my daughter is watching you tube. sometime we do that at night and I'm surfing on the web.

sometimes it does but most of the time it's ok.

  • The streaming sites that are still up are one by one being blocked by our government. Now that metadata is being collected, I would suggest a subscription or two, or a paid reputable vpn service.

  • What option did you go with jet Li?

    • BlueTV

      • Still works? For live Chinese tv and dramas? Where did you buy it from?
My Moonbox Pro stopped working :(

        • bought it from Ebay, still works, only use it for HK tvb dramas, however I'm sure there is other content from PRC etc. Live tvb tv is a little hit and miss, can be choppy and have regular delays.

        • I blocked port 9011 from my router and moonbox is working again
