I'm looking for the best all in one desktop for a family computer and for my sons schooling.

If you mean an "all in one" system as in the screen and PC are all one unit then please rethink.
Those things sounded cool in the 90s, but in reality you pay more for a slower machine that is more likely to fail, and that when you end up replacing it you have to replace a perfectly good screen + accessories.
Just get a bog standard desktop and screen package. You should be able to pick up a very good system for less than $1500.

  • I recommend just buying a normal desktop.

If you want to reduce cable clutter, buy some velcro straps or zip ties. Zip tie loose cables and hide them behind the monitor.

Use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Use a wirelesss bluetooth speaker or buy a monitor with a built in speaker.

    Recommended shopping list:

    1. Desktop PC, prebuilt by PCCG $999

    2. Logitech MK710 Combo $109

    3. Acer 27" IPS monitor (Easter Special) Special price: $209 until Monday

    4. Promate bluetooth speakers $39

    5. Bluetooth dongle $6.59

    6. Wifi dongle $35

    7. HDMI cable $5

  • Actually why not consider something for much less than $1500

I would suggest looking at something like a previous Scrimshaw recommendation

Could try the Lenovo IdeaCentre 300.

    23" Full HD display

    touch enabled
    AMD A4-7210
    4GB RAM, 1TB mechanical HDD.
the usual HDMI 1.4 and USB 3.0 ports
    Free KB and mouse

Was on clearance for $600 at Officeworks

    • Not available in Melbourne any more

  • There is one at my local.
Would you say this one or would you recommend a normal desktop computer?
    Space is not an issue

    • All in one computers are great at saving space and looking aesthetically pleasing.

outside of that, there's no other benefits. They are harder to upgrade and costlier to repair. Harder to clean out the dust.
They also typically run laptop processors, which are great at saving electricity but only provides a fraction of the performance of a desktop model.

      • Can i get your advice, so mu boys have autism funding and a percentage goes towards resources. They are learning on a imac at school but their typing and computer skills lack due to not having a computer. I have been advised that the funding can cover most of the imac if i choose to get it. Are they any good? I mainly like it because my boys will know how to navigate around without getting confused

        • For ease of use… Yep, it's almost certainly you will want an Apple pc.

You don't have much of choice if the user is only familiar with that particular operating system and hasn't had any experience with other environments.

I would buy a Mac for someone who has only used a mac all his life. Otherwise there would be a slight learning curve trying to adjust to Windows.

There are only a few choices in Apple product range.. You either get a mac mini or the all in one Imac. The iMac is usually a better deal since its complete with a monitor and input devicea.

In any case, once most go Apple… You never leave Apple. You will keep buying their computers forever and ever once you own an Apple pc as your main desktop. Their ecosystem makes it hard to give up their services.

        • @scrimshaw:

Ok great! Thank you for your reply.

I left apple products years ago for samsung but i think all schools have adapted to the apple system and its not looking like they would change anytime soon.
I also dont want to confuse them by having something different at home compared to at school.

I managed to get the $1698 on for $1528.20 on the 10% off sale so i wont need to add much of my money to it

        • @princess_nik_nak: This has just pop up on OzB. It is within your price range, it is a Mac and it is as convenient as an All-in-One. Refurbished MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display, 1 Year Warranty, $1,595 + Free Freight

        • @alvian:

There is alot of neg on that post. I think the imac would be better suited so my sons dont walk around with it and can sit behind a desk

        • @princess_nik_nak: Sorry I pointed you to a bad deal. You can tell that I am not familiar with Mac pricing, only that they are priced at a large premium over a plain PC. You made a fair point about your kids taking off with a laptop.

Just don't buy an AIO as scrimshaw said. They are nothing but trouble. I had a client who junked her HP AIO due to a faulty $15 internal fan. Nobody in Australia was able to source a replacement fan and shipping it from the US costs US$100+. No, I didn't believe it either until I got a written quote.

The iMac is no exception but for the fact that they are the most popular AIO computers, so hopefully replacement parts will be easier to find and cheaper to buy.

        • @alvian:

          Thank you for your reply.
I was told the apple imac comes with 3 years warranty and i can get a further apple care to cover it longer but also under consumer protection they will need to cover any faults for a reasonable time.

Hopefully i dont get a lemon hahaha

        • @princess_nik_nak:

don't get duped in to paying the extra warranty.
