Can I sell Optus Sagemcom modem?

Hi all, got out of Optus NBN due to their shit speed. Now, I still have the modem, could I sell it or use myself with other ISP? Thanks

Comments

  • are u sure it's the nbn or the modem itself.

    • you talking about the speed?! If yes, then 10000% Optus network.

I'm now with Skymesh, so much faster during peak hour

      • +1

Are you sure? 10000% seems pretty low.

  • I don't see a reason why you can't sell it or even use it with another ISP. However, you should double check that the congestion issues weren't partially due to the modem itself (My old ISP used optus wholesale and my internet would slow down to 1Mbps down during peak hour. After borrowing a friends modem, it turned out that my congestion issues were primarily due to the crap nbn modem my ISP provided me with).

    • Nope, not modem at all! Confirmed Optus network, even they acknowledged it, and let me go for free.

  • reason I asked too about the modem is my nbn works perfect with a couple devices connected as soon as there's about 5 connected, speed is totally crap.

  • hey, I was just browsing whirlpool, noticed the exact same question here
word by word exactly the same except on whirlpool it adds, - "finally" got out of Optus NBN

I believe you should be able to keep the sagemcom modem/router to yourself, it's not listed here as something to return to optus.

My area is changing to nbn soon, currently looking at different ISPs
Can I ask a few general questions, Were you on contract or month to month?
What nbn technology did you have, fibre to node (you have copper phone line connected to modem), HFC (you have the black arris modem), fibre to premises (you have a white box on the wall) or other wireless technologies?
what speeds were you getting with optus, and what speed tier were you on?

    • Yep that was me :P

Was on c24 months, but the speed was too shit, so contacted TIO, and got out of contract with no penalty. I paid for 50/5 Mpbs, get 2-5Mpbs download during speak, so yes Optus network is heavily congested as their wholesale & retail are all combined under same roof. So my advice is stay the hell away from them.

Currently with skymesh 100/40, consistently getting at least 60-90 Mbps download at all times

  • You talking about the older 3864 model? It's a horrible device that only does wireless N 300M and that seems to have obss coexistance so will push down to 150M if in a congested area. You would have to run a Wireless AC router beside it to get some decent speeds out of your Wifi network.

You could sell it on ebay or gumtree. I'm sure there might be some interest.

    • So I just reset and sell ?
