Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon V Dell Inspiron 15 7000

Hi,

Looking at buying a new computer for work and have been looking at these.
Similar specs with the Lenovo costing me about $100 more.

Which one would your recommend?

Thanks

Lenovo is an ultra-light business laptop, for business use and for people looking for a device with better durability and a great backlit KB. (1.3 KG)

the other is a budget gaming laptop (depending on the configuration — it can come with GTX 1050 with KabyLake HQ processor). It's a much heavier 15" notebook. (2.62Kg)

They are both very different in terms of portability. The Dell weighs 100% more, that's for sure. Do you want to lug that around with you all day on the road?

  • Inspiron? I'd be comparing the X1 to the XPS

      • X1 starts at $1,900
        XPS starts at $2,000
        Latitude starts at $4,700

So yeah, X1 and XPS. Latitude starts at the price where the X1 and XPS top out.

Plenty of businesses run X1 and XPS laptops, they even come with NBD on-site warranty.

        • @kingpins:

          Good for you.
I know full well how much businesses pay for them.

So tell me, what specifically makes the Latitude more suited to "sensitive content"

        • @kingpins:

RRP is a quick and easy way to compare something at a glance.

So, before recommending the Latitude did you consider asking what the business needs are to begin with? No.

  • Thanks, I hadn't looked at the weight.

How would the x1 compare with an xps?

I like the x1 but have read about a lot of issues with Lenovo's warranty service.

      • Do you work for Dell?
Seems like you work for Dell.

  • Just be warned that the X1s seem to have issues with their screen being yellow! I just received mine X1 yellow and the screen is so yellow. I tried turning the reading mode off but it is still yellow. I am waiting for Lenovo's tech team to get back to me.

  • Need to know what kind of "work" you have in mind before giving any useful advice. Which applications will you use, how much travel do you do, how much battery life will you need?

The 2 laptops you've named are quite different, but they both have strengths and weaknesses that may or may not make them more suitable for your work.
