Renovating a Laundry - Flatpack Cabinet Suppliers

Hi All

I'm based in Brisbane and doing a minor reno on our laundry. I am therefore seeking well priced suppliers of good flat-pack cabinets.

Right now; I only need two cabinets. The "tricky" part is one needs to be 450mm deep - which Bunnings and Ikea don't do.

I'd prefer quality builds and ideally a short lead time.

I wouldn't usually go to this much trouble for just two cabinets. However, I have a kitchen to do later this year.

Yes; I can google and hunt around, but there is nothing like a recommendation.

Hoping to get the inside running on any brilliant secret suppliers out there!

Thank you in advance

  • 450mm sounds very shallow unless it is an overhead cupboard? or someone has used an overhead as a base cabinet.

    • Hi Capt!
Agreed; we're floor space limited, and so we're forced to go for an L shape. One side is 600mm (with the washing machine, tub) and the 450 mm side we're going up as much as we can.

  • If it's an old laundry, make sure it's not lined with asbestos sheeting.

    • +1

      Naked brick. No surprises there!

  • Just buy full depth and cut down, i did that with my new kitchen. Or use uppers as mentioned above.

I did my whole kitchen with masters flatpack when they went to 30% off ;)

I thought about that for a while, to be honest. If I cannot find an appropriate flat pack provider, I might do just that.

Well played re: Masters! You lucky devil :)

  • Serious question Do 'good' cabinets ever come in 'flatpacks'?

    • flat pack is targeted at the budget/diy/handyman market and is usually always mdf, swells when exposed to water which is ironic because it usually goes in a wet area. So nothing good comes in flat pack.

A cabinet maker will use mdf, particle board or hardwood and laminate, vinyl shrink or paint it (2k paint like a car). you are paying almost 300-400% for a cabinet maker to make you your kitchen vs a flat pack. Some cabinet makers may even use flat pack for the carcass.

It is a pay for what you get type of situation. most people go cheap and hope it last 10 years and renovate to keep up with trend rather than install a hard wood kitchen that is going to last 30 years but look like your grandmas house.

  • Try secondhand Kitchen cupboards. Lots of them are still quite new and well built.
