Good Debt Collection Stocks?

I would like to invest in debt collection stocks, is it the right time and what are good stocks? I have heard that Credit Corp and Collection house are performing ok, what are your thoughts? Just looked at Credit Corp ASX chart damn should have bought some April last year!

I feel the only stock investment advice OzBargainers should ever give is:

    Buy ASX:STW.
    Hold ASX:STW.
Reinvest dividends from ASX:STW to buy more ASX:STW.
    <repeat for 15-20 years>
    Sell ASX:STW to subsidise retirement.

    • Sounds interesting, could you ELI5?
Edit: Sorry I know you basically did simplify the crap out of it, but I meant to ask could you expand on what ASX:STW is?

The STW fund is an ETF which aims to emulate the movement of the ASX 200.

General gist is to hold these units long term (3-5 years +) and the face-value will largely move with the growth of the Australian market. The fund also pays annual dividends, which I have chosen to reinvest.

This is a good product for investors with a low risk appetite but desire high liquidity that comes with a listed product.

Have a look at the fund profile which lists fund performance and characteristics.

      Not ASX:VAS?

      • Same kind of idea by the looks of it.

  • This has really got me thinking…and my 2cents…I imagine this thread will hit the "Hot topics" section soon.

My finance lecturer once retold the story of his ol' mate who invested in a bad debts company and made bick bucks during the GFC.

Short story short; I think I also want to invest in bad debt/collections company's.

I have no experience or background in trading as yet, but here are a few questions:

Is there an ETF that trades collections stocks?
Has anyone has any experience investing in collections company's?
Does anyone know anywhere I should refer to, to start my (cause and effect) research? Basically, I want to see collections stocks go through the roof in Dec 2008 etc.

    Thanks and awesome thread idea!

  • Dirty money. The tactics debt collectors use on the vulnerable are unconscionable. They are worse than Centrelink and the #fakedebts.
