Roomba or Other Robot Vac

Hi all,

I need a Roomba or some sort of Robo Vac by Friday.

Budget is around $600.00.

I spoke to a Roomba rep on the weekend and I am looking at the 650. However, I am open to options if there is better value out there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all.

  • I have a Roomba 630 (very similar model), and whilst it is good at doing light vacuuming, it does have flaws.

In particular, it bashes in to all furniture/walls as it goes around the house, and often at full speed.

I've had to put a foam tape around it to stop it damaging things.

As fair as I'm aware, the Samsung models seem to have better suction if memory serves me better.

I say the above just as a consideration if you have expensive furniture that is likely to be chipped.

    • We have the 630 as well and while it does bump into things it doesn't seem to be dong any harm. A lot of the time it slows down just before hitting a wall or whatever. Easy to clean and does a better job than I do with the big vacuum cleaner. Replacement parts are cheap on EBAY too (or Aliexpress if EBAY closes shop because of our stupid government):)

      • Oh I agree that it does slow done, but on soft woods and things, it chips finishes and things I've found.

Totally agree though that it does a good job. Probably picks up more than my Dyson Stick Vac

  • I've got an LG Roboking. Dont recommend it.

Make sure whatever you get has Weekly scheduling (pick the time AND day it runs), and if available something that will maintain itself like the samsung one with the vacuum bin base and metal cutters for getting hair out of the brushbar.

I spend more time maintaining mine, easier to vacuum with the stick vac.

And just a tip. NEVER watch it operating, its poor decisions and watching it trying to unjamb itself for 10 minutes will highly annoy you. Just put it on and leave the house.

  • +2

    These things suck!

    • Tough crowd :|

  • Doubt you will get 650 for that price. 630 is around $500-550. Does it have to be new? Search roomba in gumtree. Depending on your location there are some.

  • Buy a wife, also does dishes

  • I bought a Blitzwolf - got the idea from these forums.
It was about $300 delivered and I have to say that I am impressed by the amount of stuff it picks up.
Just make sure you give any of them a fair go by picking up any rugs, tying back curtains that touch the floor, and any other loose ends lying round so that the machine doesn't pick them up and stop.

  • A lot of OzBs use the Xiaomi Mi Vac. should be able to get one for around $450 AUD delivered.

  • Does it need to be a Roomba? I would highly recommend looking into bringing in a Neato.

  • The Roomba 650 cleans pretty well but i think the brush makes it difficult to maintain, hair just gets stuck. You might want to check its details.
