I hope these are better than the 3TB Baracuda I had. One died just over 12 months and the other 2.5hrs into use….needless to say that's the last seagate I will purchase unless reliability improves.

    • Were they internal or mounted in an external case?

I have had 4x 2TB in a NAS (regular desktop barracuda) running 24/7 between 2010 and 2015. I have replaced them with bigger drives but they are still perfectly functional.

Their replacement are 2x 8TB Archive drives, in a new NAS. They have been running 24/7 too, since 2015, without any issue.

Looking to upgrade later this year with a new 4x 8TB/10TB IronWolfs.

I have owned a couple of 2TB Samsung drives and some WD Blue drives too. All of them were good drives.
Only one of the Blue was starting to make a griding noise, but didnt totally fail.

Just avoid the 3TB from Seagate and you should be fine no matter the brand.
All drives should come with a 3 year warranty too.

  • My 2TB Baracuda died after about 12 months. I am going to stick to WD black from now on. I have owned a few and none have ever died after 5+ years. Its worth paying extra I reckon.

All that data just sitting there waiting to become inaccessible when you least expect it.

Tell me about it! I had a blackout in Brisbane during TC Debbie and I couldn't access my Synology to watch any movies on my laptop :( I think my UPS needs a new battery too as it didn't last long at all

    • Thats what backups are for.

    for a 3.5" drive 4 TB isn't big anymore.
I want 6-10 TB for a bargain price.

  • so reliability Compared to WD red is… ?

price is slowly going up again … currently at USD$114.99

    • …AND …. its dropped back again after a day's fluctuation to USD$99.99 ….

  • Do these have international warranty, or will I have to ship these back to the US?
