Purchasing Soccer/Football Tickets from Australia for an Overseas Match

I'm flying to Rome next week for a work meeting and I've got some spare time on Sunday, so thought I'd try and catch the Roma v Lazio derby (if it isn't already sold out) while I'm there. I've looked at buying tickets from various websites (viagogo, listicket, livefootballtickets etc etc), but they all seem pretty hit and miss. Chances are it'll be sold out before I arrive in Rome on the 26th, but any advice on which site I should use or what I could do? I've tried through AS Roma's website… it's quite confusing. Has anyone gone to watch a Serie A game before? What advice would you give?

Cheers

  • Have you considered using your credit card concierge?

  • Hmm I've only got a commonwealth debit Mastercard, so I'm not sure that would work? Am I wrong here?

I bought tickets to a Lazio game through their website in December (v Fiorentina). It was fairly effortless, however I would recommend you get printed tickets and get the hotel to print them for you. I chose the mobile phone app ticket thing because I didn't have a printer at the Airbnb I was at, but the scanners at the gate at Stade Olimpico (which is the same stadium you will be at) did not scan mobile phones very well. The staff there do not speak brilliant English (some do not speak English at all) so I would try to ensure it's as smooth as possible.

I just jumped on their website, there are still tickets available at face value without going through Viagogo etc. Not many though. I would get in quickly.

Also, you need photo ID to attend football matches in Italy. They check every person's ticket and photo ID before you even get to the gate to scan your ticket for entry. I didn't know this and my partner didn't have photo ID on her, so it took a good half hour of terrible broken Italian to try to to convince them we were just dumb Australians who didn't know better. It also held up the line for the locals which was embarrassing.

Finally, the entrance you access from depends on the seats you pick, so take note of this.

PS: ENJOY!!! It was one of the best things I did in Rome. The Italians love their football too. Atmosphere is terrific.

Sweet, appreciate all the info! I ended up buying a ticket through Roma's website, which was somewhat easy. Tickets were selling pretty fast, didn't have much to choose from, but I ended up scoring tix in the Tribuna Monte Mario section. Set me back around 150AUD, which was relatively cheap especially in comparison to other websites. Would definitely recommend this process for anyone looking at buying tix.
Yeah I can't wait, especially being a local rivalry and both teams are top 4

    cheers for the info again
