Buying Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X

Help me Ozbargain your my only hope! :p

Looking to buy a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X with official global ROM, from a trusted seller etc not a hacked English ROM and no crapware malware.

Leaning towards the Qualcomm version, (correct me if I'm wrong) as it'll most likely have more custom ROM's than the Mediatek version, like the RN3.

Was thinking of Aliexpress, what with the 10% Cashrewards cash back.
Though I don't know which would be a trusted seller, or if it would be best to wait for a sale from Gearbest, or something.

Big thanks guys in advance :D

Been looking for one myself - my Nexus 5 is becoming increasingly incontinent, so I need a replacement.

This "Goldway" mob seems to be what some people have had success with: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Red…

With 10% CR, comes to around $190 delivered via DHL.

Have a quick read thru the whirlpool thread (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2560551), to see what other sellers people have bought from on aliexpress. Apparently the official(?) Xiaomi store on aliexpress aint that great; dicking people around with bad DHL tracking numbers.

Banggood seems to be pretty good too, from what I've read.

    • Thanks I'll have a read of that whirlpool post :)

If you find a better vendor, please post back here, otherwise I'm likely to pull the trigger on that goldway one I posted above.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether the "international version" and "global rom" versions are physically different phones, or the global rom version just activates the different mobile bannds.

i think you should get the note 4 snapdragon and not the 4x. im pretty sure spec wise they are identical but the X version has less bands.

  • A quote from Whirlpool user Jessa, on the page

I ordered on the 1st (at some horrendously late hour). It was shipped early on the 3rd but my tracking has said "Notification of shipment confirmation" since then so I'm thinking it hasn't technically shipped. DHL wasn't an option although I did pay a little extra for EMS (not sure what difference it really makes). Geekbuying quoted me $20 for DHL then when I went into paypal to pay it it jumped to more than $60!

I'm worried as I ordered the black global version via HK on Gearbest last night then got an email this morning about their April deals and see there's an international one as well.

No you ordered correctly. International rom tends to be vendor rom (my understanding but it is confusing and I'm not 100% sure, this is how it worked with where I ordered mine from) so it's chinese rom but has google play installed. Unless you're going to flash the phone global rom is better and will get OTA updates etc.

4x is missing a band that the note 4 global is. Note 4 with global rom is the same as the 4x version (4x version has internation rom though not global). Note 4 with chinese rom has a different processor altogether.

    Clear as mud right? ;)

This explains some of it: http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-spot-fake-miui-rom-on-you…

imtahir7 is right we're not after the 4X

Soooo it seems we're after the "Redmi Note 4" with the "Global ROM" (or "Global Edition"?), snapdragon.
Not the "Redmi Note 4X" with "International ROM" (or "International Edition")

    Clear as mud right ;)

PS. I'm buying from Aliexpress Goldway. If they end up giving me the international ROM Edition I'll flash Global ROM, and post back too help future buyers.

PPs. I'll also rant too Goldway.

Note 4 has Samsung S5K3L8 camera sensor - Note 4X has Sony IMX258 camera sensor.

i would say the Camera on the 4x is better.

So that's a difference to consider

    • Thanks Tehcookiemonsta :)

    • Cameras on the 4x is pot luck now.
Lately Sony sensor is rare, some get ssung but a lot now get the dreaded omnivision sensor.

  • I also need the best possible deal on one of these phones. Cheapest I have found is $195AU, I would also like a case to go with it.

I believe this is the cheapest price on AliExpress $149.99US/$190AU for the snapdragon 3/32GB model.
New AliExpress sign up's get coupon codes, so I think there is a $6US of code.
Goldway on AliExpress has coupon codes not sure about this seller.
So price comes to $143.99US/$182.40AU, and with Cashrewards 7% off the total price comes to $169.6 + depending on your bank you may be charged an exchange rate.

      • What did you end up buying? I'm also looking at Xiaomi redmi note 4x and 4x on shopmonk and was wondering which is better as $160 for a 32Gb , 3GB ram seems like a great deal?

Actually I didn't get a phone, I decided to wait if the RN 5 has gorilla glass (wishful thinking).
The new MI A1 (5X) has gorilla glass so I'll go for it, if the RN 5 doesn't have gorilla glass, thought $50 more hmmm.

          That's some awesome deals.
The Redmi Note 4 is listed as the X (snapdragon), but in the specifications it has the Mediatek which means it's the 4.

RN 4X, the snapdragon is a little slow but more power efficient, generally more popular and has more custom ROM's, the RN 4 has the Mediatek its more faster than the snapdragon.
The same ROM's exist for both phones they are the same to flash and everything.

The Redmi 4 is the standard version it's a little slower than the note and has a 5in screen vs the 5.5in screen on the note.

In terms of cameras I have no idea which has best camera 4 or note 4.

If gorilla glass isn't important to you I'd go for one of those Xiaomi's you listed.
