Xiaomi Redmi Pro

Hi all,

I am in the market for a new Android phone in the range of $200 - $300 mark. I was aware of this Lenovo Zuk Z2 dea but l am leaning toward getting a Xiaomi phone. The reason is just for the MIUI ROM which I think is much better than any other non-vanilla ROM.

I am interested in Redmi Pro for its AMOLED screen and dual camera (depth of field). I am not sure how this is compared to Redmi Note 4/5 or even Mi 5. Their products line is somehow now confusing as which one is in higher category than which.

Anyone here has been using Redmi Pro? I would like to hear first-hand feedback. Thank you.

just something to be aware of.

  • also, rumours of the redmi pro 2 is soon to be released.

so yeah, no official global and soon rumoured to be superseeded

    • Thanks for the info imtahir7. So I guess I will wait for a bit?

        Own the mimax
It's huge but an awesome phone
        Works well in Australia
        I'm on telstra 4g

        • I was considering MiMax … I like the big screen but I want to make sure I get something with the best camera for the price range. How do you find MiMax's camera?

        • @peuwayaqdq:

Good of a day time, can get some amazing shots
night shots are okay, sometimes grainy but for the most part
never had an issue though of a day like most reviews, some shots are pretty damn good
nice focus too and the flash seems quite good

The point that won me over was I got it for under 250 with the recent sales on here, DHL shipped, perfect delivery and been happy ever since, the fact I can also run custom roms + unlock the bootloader + root is also a big point

Supports Android Pay too with Magisk

        • @shawncro 222:

AFAIK Mi Max doesn't have NFC. So how you are getting Android Pay Support?
$250 is a great price for Mi Max. Could you please provide bit for info of the seller? (I understand the sale might have been finished)

          @Bappy:
Not too sure then as it might be using my stored fingerprint rather than actual NFC..
I knew the NFC didn't come with the unit

I could be quite also wrong and it's telling me it's working when it's actually not

I'll investigate when i get home tonight and see if it's made a liar out of me

          Sorry OP

        • @shawncro 222:

No worries. Where did you buy the phone? $250 is a very good price.

  • I just pulled the trigger on a Gold Mi5 64gb from Gearbest, hate the colour but $296.14 AUD - SOLD!

  • Done a bit more research and apparently there is a LeTV phone that is very similar to Redmi Pro and it has SD 652. In fact Coolpad Cool1 dual is an answer from LeTV to Xiaomi launching Redmi Pro.

Also there is ZTE Axon 7 Max (SD 625) with 6" screen and dual camera … This is a a bit more expensive though.

I would stick with Xiaomi, they have good community support, easy unlock + root and custom roms
Great XDA threads on them too
Had all of there devices since release and theyve been bloody great, no warranty issues yet

      • Agree … I am still leaning to Xiaomi. The best support you can get for Chinesse phones.

The thing is they are pushing into the Western Market, give it 12 months and I reckon they'll start opening Mi Shops in the Western world, Australia would definately benefit, they just need to add Band 28 support (which by the way the Snapdragon 650 supports just needs the right antenna etc), they are definately okay phones

Coming from Samsung, where I hated touchwiz with a passion, Xiaomi would be the go to for mobile phones if they did some slight improvements on

          1. Camera - night shots are a little dissapointing, but overall could be improved, possibly due lens etc
          2. Band Support in Australia
          3. Local Warranty Repair Centres
          4. Got Android 7 out to their phones a little faster (although Nougat has been out for a bit on the Mi-Max Beta ROM)
