Circuit Bending Several Motherboards to Create One Large Board - Old Hyper/APC Article

Hi there, been meaning to ask this question, but usually slips my mind!

I read an old computer magazine article in the late nineties/early 2000's about a young computer enthusiast, who managed to solder several (above twenty, maybe thirty seven?) motherboards and then use this computer on his bedroom wall. This took place somewhere in Victoria. Not sure which magazine, but may have been APC, Hyper or similar. As it seems there are a lot of Victorian users on the site, I was wondering if anyone had heard of this before and even perhaps knew the person. The board took up an entire bedroom wall and was mostly green.

  • I'm too young to remember that, never heard of it either.
Was there a specific advantage to using multiple motherboards?
Was the computer actually using more than 1? How could you tell the other mobos were active?

    • They were soldered together, think it was somehow faster. Unsure as to how they tested, can only remember parts of the article. Perhaps it was even a letter that was sent in.

  • Oh the SMP guy!

    • Do you know who this was?

      • Some kid who built an SMP compatible computer using domestic PC parts that got featured in APC, or Hyper, or something along those lines. I think he was from victoria. Sorry can't really remember as it was around the y2k era

  • I bet he used Windows 3.11 like a pro.
