Forgot to Include My Middle Name - Jetstar

G'day Ozbargainers,

I booked flights really late at night a couple of months ago. I rechecked my flight details to Singapore and I forgot to put in my middle names. I was told that the E-ticket and Passport name must match. I did a mock booking with Jetstar and it only asks for first and last name.

Can anyone shed light on experiences. Will they charge me for a name change or do it for free? Or do they even care when you check in.

There's a fee for name changes + difference in air fare
Basically they cancel the old fare and rebook a new one so expect to pay the same amount as your original ticket again

No, middle name does not matter

Forgot to Include My Middle Name - Jetstar

I must say, that's quite an unusual middle name.

    • The middle name is Star, Jetstar.

I used to have 2 middle names and there's usually no space to include those names in any of the flight tickets.
So I always use only my first and last names on the tickets and leave the middle name box (if there is one) empty. I've flown with so many airlines, and no one has ever given me BS.

  • just call JS and they will change it for you.

+1 for bringing this up and giving me a mini heart attack.

    From Jetstar's Ask Jess:

Jess: When travelling, the name on your Jetstar booking is required to match the name on your ID or passport. However, it is not a requirement to add your middle name, unless you are travelling to Honolulu, U.S.A. Please click here for requirements on travelling to and from the United States.

I think Jetstar is incompetent for only providing First and Last name fields if they actually expect the full name as written in the passport. The Australian passport doesn't even have first name and last name fields…can anyone that's flown to and from Honolulu confirm if they had any problems?

  • They always say that. They never care, as long as your DOB and everything else matches, it's OK to forget it. It really is just a ruse for you to pay them a few hundred to change the name so you can be 'safe.'

what bull, never use my middle name and never had a problem either :)

  • I have flown without my middle name a few times.

  • My wife has two last names and only ever uses the first one on tickets, I never put my middle name on the tickets, been to USA plenty of times. As long as you have an ESTA for USA flights you'll be fine.

  • I've missed out my middle name in the past when booking with Jetstar. I recall the check-in agent at the airport simply hand writing it on the boarding pass before handing it to me. Don't panic, you'll be fine.
