Favorite Destination for Peaceful Alone Time?

I want to travel alone. I'm worked up by office routine and daily hassle. I want a peaceful alone time for myself to relax and unwind.

My bathroom is my go to place for peaceful alone time. No one bothers me when I'm on the throne.

Unless you have pets, in which case they like to open the door, sit down in front of you and stare while you do your business.

      • Unless you have pets kids

        Fixed

      • Do you have a camera in my house, or what? Sit on the loo, one, or both, of the cats will mill around wanting a back and tummy rub. At least these two don't climb onto the underpants - as previous cats have done. They figure you are trapped for a little while so it is their "me" time.

Go somewhere new on a road trip.

  • Go for a drive to the NT or remote WA. No one to bother you out that way and straight roads to help you reflect on your life

  • Halong Bay, North Vietnam :)

    • in the last 10 years this has become Bali version 2 unfortunately

      • North Vietnam is that good?

  • Santorini

  • Anywhere in Italy. Spend the days in piazzas drinking coffee, eating, and drinking aperitivo (aperol spritz).

    • My friends went to Italy and all they ate was Pasta and Italian dishes all the time <3

How odd! I also know a friend who went to Malaysia and all he ate was Asian food for some weird reason.

        • Maybe because of unavailability or they like to experiment new things.

If you want to do it cheaply then do a staycation but go out to nice restaurants and buy good wine, cheese and chocolates to nibble on in the evenings.
If you want to splurge a bit I would do a long distance train journey - we did 3 days across Canada in a sleeper car and it was great. I spent most of the time looking at the scenery, doing my cryptic crosswords, eating at the dining car and just sitting in bed and watching the world go by. The only disadvantage is if you leave the blind open you may mind find people staring in at you in the morning if you pull into a station.
The other relaxing one is Como in Italy. You can just sit on the ferries as they cross the lake and walk through the villages.
Mauritius is also a great location - lie on the beach and the bus system is really good so you can travel around the island really easily. The food is Creole so it is just fantastic.

Try to avoid any holiday where you are continually packing up to move somewhere else.
