Since it doesn't start until Friday, I decided to post info here in the forums for the time being.

EB Games have made a number of improvements over the past few years for their mystery boxes, most notable being a separate box for T-Shirts/Pop Vinyl figures and platform-specific boxes. Here's what's available;

  • PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC mystery boxes
  • T-Shirts & Pop Vinyl mystery boxes
  • $25 Loot mystery boxes (general items, I presume)
  • $5000 mystery box (one available)
  • Plus free shipping as always.

What are your thoughts on this year's event?

      The mystery boxes are sold in multiple price points, usually denoting how many (and how valuable) goods are shipped in a box. For example, $20 box gets you a Pop Vinyl figure and a T-Shirt.

      Their price points are generally sold in $20, $30, $50, $100, $200 and $500, as well as the revealed values of $25 and $5000. They usually change their price points every year.

    What kind of things were in last year's boxes?

      Randomised stock of various gaming and pop culture-related items, from Pop Vinyl figures to Games, as well as board games like Monopoly and Music CDs. A lot of that stuff were also spare pre-order bonus that were never claimed; such as Steelbook cases, DVDs, Lego sets and the whatnot. Pricier boxes ($200 upwards) even had 3DS consoles and gaming headphones.

      Take a look at last year's results. (EB have set up a Twitter hashtag for customers to share what they got.)

      If they do stick to their words (categorising types of mystery boxes, as opposed to getting complete mystery stock the past few years), it might be worth picking up a box this year.

      They generally have a game specific to that platform (Xbox One mystery box gets you at least 1 Xbox One game and so on), as well as other miscellaneous goods.

      EB added console-specific boxes late in the week due to popular demand. The value of games included are actually decent in my opinion; such as Animal Crossing New Leaf, Forza 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

    Gees, the cheapest box is $50.

    (Aside from the donation part) I'm not sure if it's worth it.

      Yeah I think if you bought 1x everything on Switch, you'd be under $1000..
      At EB inflated prices:
      $470 for the console
      $90 Zelda
      $70 1-2-Switch
      $80 Mario Kart
      $90 Just Dance
      $90 Lego
      $40 Has Been Heroes

      == $930…ok, let's get some accessories to pad it out, then.
      $100 Pro controller x2
      $120 Joy Con set x2
      Screen protectors?
      Other swag?

      Who knows what people will get with that - but it's really odd to have a value that high for a new console with a very little catalogue.

        It'll be nice if EB would be that generous.

        It'll probably be what you have listed minus a 2-4 games, plus some t-shirts, posters, framed zelda/mario picture and amiibos.

        Better if it was priced around $450-500 for a switch console, zelda + random items (t-shirts, posters, etc).

    • $120 Fallout box
    • $100 Harry Potter box
    • $2000 PS4 box
    • $1500 Nintendo Switch box
    • $1000 Xbox One box

    The rest are gone.

      Looks like they don't have many boxes this year. By my lunch time all the under $100 boxes are gone. So I just donated $20 :)

    I just got my $50 PS4 mystery box! Honestly wasn't expecting much but was blown away when I pulled out not one but two games that I have yet to try (Uncharted 4 and For Honour).

    The games are promo copies though. Printed on the discs: "This software is licensed for play on authorised Playstation 4 systems only." etc etc. Just like the ones shown here (not my tweet).

    Does anyone know if using these would violate any rules/terms with Sony? Wouldn't want to have my PSN account banned.

    Otherwise I'm really impressed!

        No idea. Wasn't expecting it at all. I only just got the dispatched email that very same morning too.
