Addicted to OzBargain

Hi,

I'm Detective John Kimble and I'm addicted to Ozbargain.

I do like a good deal/bargain, but money is a bit tight right now, so even they are off limits mostly. It's more the forums actually…some threads are better than TV in terms of comedy/drama.

It's actually affecting my work and home life.

Are there any tips anyone can give me? A help line like the gambling one they have? I don't want to quit cold turkey, but limit the frequency and time I spend on the site.

I do have an addictive personality to be honest, previously it's been gambling, CS, DOTA, Candy Crush, Pokemon Go for example…

Cheers,
DJK

Find a healthier addiction like exercising, cooking, lifting weights, becoming Governor of California, etc. Then limit yourself to checking the site once a day. This place is addictive and can be a big time waster.

It's not an addiction man, I can stop anytime. Yep, I am in complete control. Yessir…

Just one more bargain… oh yeah… just one more bargain…

Its called Time & Money management when you don't have anything to do.. just browse the site and save money.

That's the thing, it's not when I have nothing to do. I have things like work and chores I should do haha

    im here to collect badges.

Try Fire Emblems: Heroes, another mobile gacha game.. perfect for addictive personalities

  • Find something else more productive to fill your free time? Perhaps get a pet ferret (not a dog).

    • Hardly have free time…I basically procrastinate here :(

      • So you have no free time but you spend a lot of time on a website.

        • Correct! For example, I should be completing a report for work right now! :/

At home I should be playing with my daughter or doing chores.

Instead of these more urgent tasks, I am usually on this website.

Not sustainable for me personally. It's not the website's fault. Completely an issue with my lack of self control/discipline.

    1. We admitted we were powerless over OzBargain - that our lives had become unmanageable
    2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
    3. Etc etc

I too have an addictive personality and I have found sobriety to be the only way for booze and cigarettes, but self-exclusion for many months on end for gambling and setting a budget for gambling funds. Perhaps you could limit your OzBargain browsing time to two hours a day max? If you have a partner you could enlist their help.

  • hi detective, I hope it doesn't affect ur work too much but if you feel the need to try and get a break from I'd bargain watch tattoo of us. the show just started and it's very addictive also.

  • I'm thinking one of these apps or similar on my phone for when I'm at work!?

You haven't even got the 'chatty' badge yet.

In addict terms you are still sneaking some booze out of your parents liquor cabinet compared to the guys mainlining the heroine in the monthly highest post/comment counts!

    • Haha. Trying to avoid getting to that stage I guess!?

Is there a forum lurker or forum refresh badge? I think I would have them a few times :p

Wait for Tightarse to post the next Time Management course on Udemy.

Hi detective, maybe you should get back to work. :P

    • :( that would be the smart thing to do.

  • I know what you mean about Ozbargain.
I think I may be a little addicted to it too (though I'm extremely good at not spending money).
I can become addicted to things once I start something it's hard to turn off/stop, plus I also have OCD :(.

    • How do I overcome this addiction, my friend? :/

You are not alone mate. Lot of people in the same boat. Ozbargain is a religion worth following 😊

    • +1

      Amen!

    • Whilst I am comforted to know I'm not alone, it doesn't help me technically haha

Does anyone else have the website set as their homepage???

  • Read Quora instead. At least tit would be learning stuff if you choose the right threads.

  • May i suggest World of Warcraft? ;)

Have you thought about baking cupcakes? Everybody loves cupcakes.

  • Did you find a cure?

  • I had to buy AppBlock from Google Play Store to block Ozbargain during my work hours … 😪

    • nice necro :)
