Would like to change hard drive to SSD on Asus G771J ROG laptop. What SSD's will work? Advice?

I'm a bit of a noob with PC parts and was wondering if it would be easy to do this on my own by watching a walkthrough on youtube etc.

I want to upgrade my HDD to an SSD and keep my old information (if possible).

Can anyone suggest an SSD for a laptop that will be compatible with the ASUS and what steps to take to do this myself…

Much appreciated!

    this machine has 2 x 2.5" bays.

so just buy any regular ssd that is on sale and bung it in.

    here's a disassembly video

install the OS on to the SSD and use the original HDD a storage.

watch for SSD deals popping up on the deals

personally, I'd grab this 2nd hand ssd (bargain price) and a mSata adapter and you'd be laughing.

    • what's the msata adapater for? Transferring stuff from HDD to SSD?

edit: Forgot to say thanks for the advice.

what psyclone says. the cheap SSD has a mSata plug. so you need to buy an adapter plug thing to fit it to the sata connection of the laptop so that the above cheap SSD can connect.

it's a physical adapter which changes the connector.

        a straight forward "plug'n'go" thing

Your laptop has a normal SATA connection, this is a mSATA hard drive (much smaller).

You need the adapter in order to plug it physically into your laptop.
