Looking for a Second Hand Desktop Computer

I have a laptop that basically runs majority of what I want it to. However, recently, I got gifted Nier Automata for my birthday, and I'm hella stoked to play it. So I wanna get a PC, but preferably as cheap as possible.

I was looking at these https://www.knncomputers.com.au/collections/core-i5.

Will the Chipset on these run the 10xx series CPUs? If so, should I get a 1050 or 1060?

If you have some spare effort, which budget SSD will be good for bootdrive? I'm ok with 120gb. Thanks.

This game was not well optimized. From this tweak guide it appears a GTX 1060 will give you an average of 50 fps and minimum of 38fps @ 1080p.

An RX 470 trails behind at 38 average and 28 minimum, not sure what a 1050 would get you, probably something similar.

according to Kotaku, you can improve performance using FAR (Fix Automata Resolution) which is a mod that was created by a steam user that tweaks the in-game graphics to make it run better.

For a procesor you should probably not get anything older than a Sandy Bridge. A core i5 2500(k) would be the baseline CPU I would buy. Anything older usually has lower instructions per clock.

Also those Elitedesks and Optiplex 9010's are SFF (small form factor) versions, you will not be able to fit in a fullsized GPU in those, plus a new power supply. You will need to find full-sized towers of these desktops if you want to use a 1060 (no LP's exist for the 1060 yet).

    • Just tested the game myself and on high settings 1080p I can get stable 60fps (albeit in windowed mode, fullscreen doesn't seem to be 'fullscreen') on my GTX 1060 3gb. This is without using the FAR mod as well.
EDIT: I lied sorry, get around 50fps in the city ruins. 60fps was in the desert :(

They're a PITA to even put low profile cards in sometimes.

    • Thanks, I'll try looking for a full sized tower. Hopefully more people are looking to replace their pc soon so I can have it for dirt cheap lol. Don't get to play games alot.

  • So uhhh, these are prebuilt systems but your title says you're only looking for a CPU?
If you're only looking for a second hand CPU 2500k is a good bet they still overclock like an absolute beast and CPU advancements in the last 6 years have been minimal compared to GPU advancements.

    • By "CPU" he probably means the case with everything in it.

Optiplex DT or SFF can hold a low-profile GTX1050ti, and no PSU upgrade needed.

    • Thank you! May I bother you with another question?

I found some HP elite 8300 for really cheap. Judging from the spec sheet, it has a 230w psu. I've also found this on the manual:

"You can install a PCI Express x1, x4, x8, or x16 expansion card in the PCI Express x16 slot."

So will the card, or any higher end card fit?

      • The x16 slot is intended for a graphics card. But you are constrained by size and power.
Elite comes in different sizes, so check the specs. Ditto for the cards.

A GTX-1080 draws 180W max, so no chance.
Considering that most games run on a phone or iPad these days, a GTX1050ti is still friggin' awesome.
