TGI Fridays BOGOF Entertainment Book and Gift Card

Just went out for dinner at TGI Fridays at the Jam Factory in Victoria.

Had a reasonable meal but left a bitter taste when paying.

I had planned to use a $50 gift card and the entertainment book BOGOF voucher.

When paying I was told by the staff member that I was unable to use two vouchers. I kindly explained that one was a gift card and not a voucher but he simply would not listen and was adamant that it could not be done.

Should I have been entitled to use the gift card and voucher together?

I assumed that I could seeing as the gift card is just a form of payment and should be treated as if it was cash. As such I would only be using one voucher which gave me a discount and should be able to use both.

Please share your opinions with me. What do you think I should do and should I be entitled to use both?

  • What gift card?

    • Sorry if I wasn't clear, it was a TGI Fridays gift card.

I'm with you; 1 gift card and 1 voucher does not equal two vouchers.

  • Did you ask to speak to the manager?

    • No I didn't but in hindsight this probably should have been the way to go.

  • I think both should be allowed, however due to the primitive nature of some POS systems and also the attitude of the higher ups, I can understand why staff may be reluctant.
Gift cards may have to be used under the discount category in certain POS systems, and to apply two is restricted, or the staff member may have to explain themselves when the sale statistics are checked by the higher ups. Essentially they're covering their asses in not giving two 'discounts' although we both know the gift card shouldn't.
But I agree that both should be allowed at the same time, under the pretense that the gift card was purchased with cash and not a promotional voucher/staff special.

  • Gift card is a form of payment, not a voucher.

  • Report this to Entertainment Book.

similar thing happened at KOBE Jones in Sydney.

it was the last day before a $150 gift voucher could be used. and the attendant wouldn't allow me to use it along with 25% off entertainment book voucher.

after much explaining and convincing with both the manager and the restaurant staff. they obliged.

  • Don't you show the 25% voucher or 50% voucher before you get the bill? Then once you have the adjusted bill go I will split the payment.
