Which Company Has The Best 2 in 1 Laptops for Approx. $2k?

Hey Folks,

I hate to be another one of those newbies asking for laptop buying advice but any advice would be most welcome.

I’m looking for 2 in 1 laptop around the $2000 mark (maybe a bit more)
Narrowed it down to 3 choices at this stage (but open to other suggestions)

  1. HP Spectre x360 – maybe the 15inch if it ever gets sold in Australia.
  2. Dell XPS13
  3. Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga X1 (when the new model comes out).

Task wise I’ll be looking for 2 very general things:

  1. I’ve started my own business, so I’ll be doing all the usual business stuff on it 8 hours a day and travelling with it a lot.
  2. I’ll be watching movies on it while at home/travelling or hooking it up to my TV.
I think an i5 will be enough to do the job, assuming I’ll outsource any heavy video or graphics work. I’m busy trying to educate myself on all the different ports/slots I should be looking for – its been 4 years since I’ve had to even think of buying any machines.

I’ve just quit my job where I had a Dell Inspiron (cant remember the exact model number) and an Ipad and I’m looking for a machine that can replace both those.
Currently using a very cheap ($500) 4 yo Lenovo lappy which has been mainly used as my home machine. Its far too slow and out of date for what I need now.
I really liked my Dell business lappy but it had a lot of problems in the 12 months I used it. My Lenovo hasn’t missed a beat but I really don’t like the feel of it (keyboard) compared to the Dell.

Has Lenovo build quality and customer service really gone downhill as this and other forums attest?
How good are the Dell’s and HP’s quality wise and customer service wise.
As this will be my business machine, I want to minimise the chance of getting a dud product and dealing with crap customer service to get it repaired. (I know duds can happen with any company)

Other factors to consider:

  1. I want to be able to use the tablet function around the house while I do housework etc. So I want the volume to be loud enough that I don’t need to hook it up to extra speakers.
  2. I’m a moderate level klutz, so I want something that isn’t too fragile.
  3. I work at a university till end of June 30 (might qualify for discounts) and a good mate works at officeworks and said he can get me a lappy from there at cost price.

Any of your thoughts/advice/experience would be greatly greatly appreciated.

  • Lenovo deals look the best to me at the moment. You should check again when you are ready to buy.

  • Why do you want to spend $2000 on a laptop to do things that a $600 laptop can do, just curious
