Glasses - Temp Health Cover for Purchasing and Cancelling after It

Hey Guys,

Needs new prescription glasses. Can I take any (probably claim straight away) extra insurance and cancel next day to avoid charges? Is it realistic?

Recommendations and advise ?

PS: I don't have any insurance and not planning to take in future for long term.

  • Most extras policies are subject to a waiting period.

You would need to take out Hospital and Extras for the waiting period
    to be waived on Extras.

    e.g.

Even if you took out a minimal combined policy, the amount you could claim would be capped at $200.

Whether your claim would be successful and without issues is doubtful.

get an eye test and prescription and then buy on line from some of the places listed in this post

Doing what you propose, just means the other members are forced to pick up the cost of your glasses. This is one of the reasons health fund prices hike every year.

the over the top expensive advertising, the executive bonuses and other shite that a "provider" throws money at probably account for 99% of the fund price hikes.

  • I use Zenni. No issues & they're cheap.

Eye tests (to determine your prescription) are paid for by medicare so I just went to Specs Savers and asked for a printout of my prescription from my last test. They were happy to provide it, but did another test b/c it was 2 yrs+ since I'd been tested & it was time for an update/check anyway.

So you don't need to go to the hassle of what you're considering anyway.

Make sure you as for your PD (pupillary distance) measurement at the same time - they normally don't include this unless you ask, and you'll need it if you're ordering online.
